15 Aug '06 9:53 pm I will get the hang of this thing -- this is my fourth attempt at sending a picture of my current favourite flower. It is about 2½ feet tall, sturdy with the flowers opening from the top. It is insect and butterfly friendly and easy to grow. In reality the colour is lilac but my digital camera seems to prefer blue.
2 Sep '06 6:00 pm What a stunning colour photograph, Gerry! Thanks. I'd very much like to grow this perennial - will see if I can source it. beautiful!

7 Sep '06 6:22 am Hej, I still have plenty of colour on my plants and they have withstood the recent strong winds which endears them to me even more. Remember they are lilac in reality (my digital camera!) I bought the corms very cheaply in a supermarket sale, and I thought 'what the heck' so I am well pleased. Good luck in your quest. Gerry

Liatris spicata
7 Nov '06 6:46 pm Liatris really are lovely, aren't they? I have several in my garden, and this year, after several failed attempts to grow them from seed, I found and bought a white one. Can't wait for it to bloom next summer!! when I figure out how to upload pictures, I'll post some of my garden (I'm a new reader of this website).

7 Nov '06 11:02 pm Good morning, my corms/bulbs were bought because they were cheap in a local supermarket -- I think they were reduced because the planting season was all but finished. However, the results were excellent. I have now lifted the bulbs and they are drying out in the shed. The bulbs seem to have multiplied as well as flowered, so all things being equal I should have a really good display next tear. Good luck with yours. Gerry

liatris failure
8 Nov '06 1:34 am I planted liatris together with several dahlias a year ago as a colour experiment for a new garden I'm planning (rich reds, blues and purples); a spectacular failure! The liatris wilted when a finger high and most of the dahlias never got to flower. This in a bed close to my house where I often plant things to observe their development before going out into the garden. What got'em? Could only have been some kind of underground worm... but the experiment was cancelled due to lack of interest. Just as well I've had other successes: such failures with 'easy' plants could put one off for life

8 Nov '06 3:21 am Hej, because of the dry summer I did keep mine well watered -- did yours suffer from lack of it I wonder? Gerry
