Container plants in Spring11 Apr '05 1:24 am
The container plants are starting to fill out on the roof terrace, as Spring settles in. The rose bushes in particularly are look significantly more healthy, filling out since arriving as mere twigs in early March.
The lavender bracts are appearing - I wish I bought some more if this pretty little plant, they would surely look great en masse. The garden centre has sold out of them now so I'll have to wait until next year
The bronze flaxes are suffering from the swirling wind - which appears to come from the west, as the left hand flax is coping where the flax on the right is a mess. I think a reshuffle is in order, tho possibly a little late, if only to save the plants below from a flax leaf thrashing.
The canna rhizomes (previously mistaken for bulbs) are still playing hard to get, but good things always come to those that wait. I am so excited about cannas that I even ordered some more - the Canna Phaison Tropicana. It has crazy purple and green leaves - will look great contrasting with the green and yellow striped Bengal Cannas.
The observant will notice a new shrub has snuck in, a Hebe Red Edge - aka Henry's Hebe, named after a gorilla friend I have in the house who has a pinkish tinge to his soft-toy fur. Any excuse for a plant purchase, eh. I love the pattern the alternating hebe leaves make. Great for practising my camera's close-up button

Henry's hebe sounds a much better name than Red Edge, surely?

The bergenia leaves are growing vigorously - the plant looks too big for this pot already.

Definitely need to take Moosey's advice and raise some of these pots up, to create a variety in the height. Oh and buy some more saucers.
