Hampton Court advice28 Jan '05 2:53 am
Hi,
I'm considering buying a VIP charity gala ticket to Hampton Court this year. It's a very special present for a dear friend, we both live abroad so the costs will spiral considerably.
Has anybody experienced the gala and dinner? Or even just the gala itself? What tickets did you buy and did you feel it was worth it? Also is the charity gala day still quite crowded?
Many thanks for any information you can give me. |

What a nice friend you are
That's quite a hard decision to make between the Hampton Gala Preview ticket packages - creative fun with the entry only tickets? Or sheer decadence with the entrance-all-areas tickets?
They must keep numbers down more to make it 'exclusive', which would be a great way to see the gardens. Apparently no press either - not certain about that tho. The live performances are all around the site, and the fireworks would add to the drama. The entertainment & some champagne comes with all tickets, so its more about how you'd like to dine, and whether you'd like access to the Hospitality Village to schmooze with the VIPs.
Eating at the standard Hampton Flower Show food tents is quite expensive for nothing memorable (I found), so if you went for Garden Party tickets I'd take your own picnic. Luxury picnic!
An extra £75 for the Fortnum & Mason picnic package sounds about right (for a F&M picnic) and you get a covered area to picnic under - helpful if it rains, and this is England...
The Gala Dinner would be spectacular, I'm sure. If you can manage £500-worth of tix, and inevitably a dress, shoes, etc Fabulous
How exciting. We visited Hampton the day after the night before last year - most of the garden designers and teams were looking a little worse for wear. A couple of references to 'all the champagne' gave it away.
Would be great to hear from someone who's been to the Hampton Court Gala Dinner. And this year's tales too, Coco - sure to be a great night! |
