A Wasting Rose Disease8 Jan '05 6:30 pm
What happens when a rose just sort of fades away - any growth from the base has slightly curled up leaves, the whole bush sort of shrinks - no flowers - then dies? This whole process takes place over a couple of years, and a hard winter prune in between doesn't do any good?
No insects visible, no obvious fungal things. The rose has been in same location, happy, for years. Hmm.... It's like some awful Victorian wasting disease.
Does anyone know what's likely to be going wrong? Is something funny getting at the roots? Is it a rose virus? |

Canker maybe?
It affects older roses... |

Could be. Medical history - this rose got badly rusted last summer. I know rust never sleeps - but does a large dose of RUST kill? If so, will I have to become the rose-spraying queen... |
