hubby made friends..25 Apr '08 8:24 am
Someone dumped an orange kitten here a few months ago, I have been feeding him of course and he is really sweet and loveable. Adam (my husband) was angry and didn't want to encourage him to stay, said we already have 2 cats and that is plenty, we have to draw the line somewhere, he was always trying to chase him off. Spraying him with the water bottle every chance he got. (I keep a couple of spray water bottles around the gardens to remind my cats that my flower beds are not their toilets) Well a couple of nights ago that all changed. Adam likes to play his guitar out on the front porch in the evenings, and was doing that. The orange cat came up, sat at his feet looking up at him. When he finished the song, the cat started rubbing against his legs. He said it felt like being applauded, he petted the cat for awhile, gave him some leftover chicken, named him Tom, and no longer tries to chase him off. Personally, I think Tom is one exceptionally smart cat... |

Welcome to Tom!25 Apr '08 9:16 am
That is one great story! Somtimes things are meant to happen slowly, I reckon. Welcome to Tom the orange kitten, and the good life. Photos? I'd love to meet this musical cat. |

Deb and I would be hard pressed to chase away any stray cats that came around here. Brakes my heart every time the local shelter runs an add to adopt animals.
I think Tom and you two are very lucky.

I look at the adopt-a-pet faces in the local newspaper, but for now I can't really offer any of them homes. I actually feel more sorry for the dogs - they are more needy, and really thrive if they can become part of a family. A dog without a pack is an unhappy dog, I reckon. Rusty the red border collie agrees with me. |

I would really love a dog,6 May '08 3:12 am
unfortunately we have no fenced in yard. We had a dog Banjo and loved him dearly. He was always safe running around here in the country before(stayed close to home) But in the past year they have started doing alot of drilling around here (we are on what they call the Barnett Shale) and traffic on these back roads has gotten alot more frequent. The guys on these rigs not being from around here, do not watch out for animals and Banjo sadly was killed by one. It is really our fault, we should have realized with the drillers moving into the area, something like that could happen. So until and unless we get a fence besides the barbed wire type all the properties around here have (works for cattle but dogs can go under or thru) we won't be getting another dog. My neighbors dog is still around and I worry she could suffer the same fate. |
