I just found the great new website, thank you !..This last
summer I planted about 6 rose champion plants, the dark
magenta color and they never did bloom, the plants are all
still alive and green as I live in North Texas and they
have not froze down.
Can someone please tell me how to get them to bloom? I just love
rose champion and would be interested in getting some of the
other colors, (If I could get them to bloom, ha.)
Thanks so much............

roses blooming
15 Dec '07 7:10 pm I do not know the rose'champion',but roses take a year or two to really get lots of blooms-they are usually very skimpy the first year.Do they look healthy? They do need a good start in life, and should be planted in good soil to which compost and nutrients have been added. They also will not flower if they are in shade.
let us know how you get on -what other plants do you grow?
Best wishes.
Dixie.

15 Dec '07 8:58 pm This plant is also known as ROSE CAMPION. I assume you are referring to it It has grey leaves and small, simple, amazingly bright magenta flowers. It will spend its first year establishing, and then send up its long flowering stalks from the second year. It self-seeds freely, and is one of my all-time favourite plants. I know lovely white and white with pale pink centre forms as well, but the brightness of the magenta is unique amongst flowers -I've heard it described as being like back-lit stained glass!

Thanks for the info. on the rose champion blooming the
second year. I did not know that., they are fine healthy
plants so I will look forward to their lovely magenta blooms
next year.
I have a back yard full of flower beds, my favorite is
the perennials and my roses.,I have a ebbtide bush rose that just smells heavenly, although the daylilies run
a close second., I also have a small vegetable garden.
Nice to be a part of your chat,
thanks

30 Dec '07 7:58 am Hi Dee, welcome to the forum. I grow the maroon and white and pale pink versions of the Lychnis flowering plant. The magenta is just beautiful, with the texture and colour of the leaves as a backdrop. Would you like me to send you some seeds of the other colours?
