22 Sep '07 11:29 pm Hi everyone after a long absence i am finally back in the land of gardening, i thought i might post this picture of my Just Joey rose which is looking absolutely spectacular in its first flush, in actual fact all the roses are looking spectacular which is a little suprising to me due to the fact that we are on excessively strict water rationing, two days a week, we get water for 12 hours, yet the roses are doing brilliantly, the only change to my program besides a little less water is the fact that i used old pig manure and top dressed with it as well and if this is why they look so great then this may be a new program for others to look at. I will post more at a later stage on my rose program in these bad climate times. Enjoy the picture and look forward to contributing more regularly.
Just Joey Bulawayo Zimbabwe The colour petal details are near perfect, despite onlt getting water twice a week!

23 Sep '07 5:05 am What a gorgeous photo.Just Joey is such a delicious looking rose. Our sympathy about the water restrictions.I have heard that it it important to encourage roses to root deeply rather than shallow if the climate is dry.
Would love to see more,R in B

Beautiful rose
24 Sep '07 2:58 pm but so different than the one that goes by that name here. Yours has so many more petals and the color is in the same range but perhaps lighter. I like this version very much, does it also have the incredibly strong fruity scent? I think my dogs would love the pig manure too much to give the roses a chance at it, but your rose seems very satisfied with it.
If you get to use all the water you want on those days I think you can make your roses very happy. I cut mine back to every third day but of course I have clay soil that is going to hold every drop. If you're over sand that's another story. Good luck and I look forward to seeing more southern hemisphere roses as mine begin to slow down up here.
