11 Jun '07 3:57 am I took a whole lot of pics on a walk this afternoon, but I must post this one specially for the two of you - it is the best example of a fairy's toadstool that I've found on the farm in 20 years!
It would seem that the unexpected and severe cold of two weeks ago prompted a lot of fungus action - anybody heard of that happening, or is it just a co-incidence?

11 Jun '07 4:50 am Wow, Jack! What an awesome find! It looks really pretty in crimson shade and spotted all over. Amazing that its trunk (is that what it's called?) is so white! Hehe...I've a man-made set of three in my garden, but hadn't known that such fungus exist! Thanks for sharing!
11 Jun '07 6:04 am Wow, Jack! What a unique find. I want to make some of those too. I too, thought that this form of fungus was imaginary. I wonder how wide spread their domain is?
jacqueline, the trunk is called a "stalk" or a "stem" and the top is called the "cap"on mushroom type thingys. Your 3 are fine examples for man made ones.

fairy mushrooms
12 Jun '07 7:13 pm Jack, that is amazing, I have seen alot of toadstools or mushrooms but never one that actually looked like the ones in fairy tales. Thank you for posting that ... So if fairy mushrooms are real, perhaps the fairy folk are too, LOL.
