30 Mar '07 6:20 am I have had the delicate beauty 'Sally Holmes' rose for a couple of years against the rails that I painted green ,but thought she didn't look right somehow ,so this year I planted groups of pale pink cannas ,which are exactly her colouring ,with her ,in order that the lushness of their foliage would give some substance to the grouping .Silver artemesia are happy there too.Next year I am going to extend the garden slightly to put in Pieris -more beautiful foliage -in front of her ,as she grows quite tall.I don't actually have any front photos this year .

There is dwarf agapanthus and a good foliage plant -lonicera nitida which I grow from cuttings

30 Mar '07 10:31 pm Such fabulous pictures of your beautiful garden, dear Dixie! Love the way how you've arranged your groupings with wonderful colour combination and height! My favourites are the second pic where I get to see the hint of your lovely blue blooms in the background and the third pic is definitely my winner where its wonderfully composed to showcase all the beauty therein especially the greyish-green plant standing handsomely tall behind the canna blooms! Thank you!!

31 Mar '07 1:28 am I haven't got much time to write what I'd like, as I have to get back to work now, but I just wanted to say I love the photos, Dixie, and your gorgeous cannas and artemesia certainly do make a lovely grouping with the rose!

Cannas
31 Mar '07 4:14 am What a lovely composition Dixie. I love the color of those Cannas and the silver artemesia sets them off perfectly. Now, I feel very anxious to rush outside to see if I can still rescue the canna roots that were given free to me back in February and that have been languishing in plastic bags every since. Shame, shame you lazy gardener!
As usual, your arrangements are so great Dixie.

31 Mar '07 12:16 pm I really like these colors together. The silver, greens and pinks really work as night garden too I think. Thanks for the update, Mark
10 Apr '07 2:08 pm They make an absolutely beautiful colour combination. And they look good against the wooden fence, in the second pic, which sort of frames it.

10 Apr '07 7:18 pm I am not sure if I have told you about how it was when we came .We didn't know there were wooden rails under all the overgrown things until we cleared it all .The Sally Holmes and the cannas are now where the two white bags of compost were in this photo .The huge conifer was removed and also the large tree on the left as it was leaning dangerously over the house .I scrubbed and painted the rails green .
