28 Feb '07 10:22 am This is a new area I planted last spring .It is under a pink camelia and is near my kitchen window .
The dahlia is 'Samantha' - my favourite dahlia ...heads a bit droopy in this photo unfortunately . Samantha has very unusual foliage .In front I planted double pale pink begonias and petunias. They have flowered all summer -what a delight !

28 Feb '07 7:15 pm This is a bright , harmonious border, Dixie! But more than lovely Samantha, I just LOVED these Petounias in light and darker blue! I wish this new variety reaches Belgium this Spring...Because I always add here and there in the borders a few annuals, just to add some more lovely colour..
Next year your new border will be even more gorgeous!

28 Feb '07 8:35 pm Wow!! Dixie, what pure delights you've shared here! Love all those impressive beauties in that wonderful border of yours! A wonderful combination of lovely colours to feast on and the blue petunias are absolutely outstanding for me! Samantha's blooms seem so awesomely big...at least 5-6 ins. across...are they? Thanks for sharing!

4 Mar '07 8:15 am That is a lovely Dahlia. It looks particularly healthy, unlike mine.
(Do dahlias have soil preferences, does anyone know? Our soil is quite sandy.)

dahlias
4 Mar '07 12:50 pm Samantha's blooms are about 15cms across .She is creamy white with lavender tips .I think she needed some potash to strengthen her stalks ,as she shouldn't be droopy like that .
I plant my dahlias in mushroom compost ,which they love .I get a trailer (or ute) load for $20 -at Andy Smith's on the western side of Morrinsville ,Anna.
