Hello and Welcome15 Dec '06 10:17 pm
HI Rosepetals - love the name and your avatar, by the way! I hope you enjoy visiting the Country Garden as much as I do, but be careful - it can become addictive!! (in a good way, of course! ) Whatever your level of knowledge, there's always something to learn from the wonderful people here and, of course, some wonderful friends to make.
As Jaqueline said, do share any pictures you may have of your own garden and/or animals - we'd love to see them and delight in their prosperity. |

Welcome , Rosepetals! You just found the right place to express your gardening inspiration! And, like dear Bambi says, to acquire true friends!
Is this exceptional Rose of your avatar, a real one - painted in some way? |

Hello, Rosepetals, and welcome from a newcomer also!
It's a lovely site with warm, friendly people and I hope you enjoy it as much as I am so far.
I have a blue rose called Rhapsody in Blue ... it won a Rose of the Year competition (in England?) in 2003, I believe, but it is more intense, irridescent purple blue, than your delicate rose.
From where are you speaking to us? With such a global "family" it's nice to know location.

Hallo Rosepetals!18 Dec '06 6:31 pm
And welcome from me too - it is always exciting to welcome new members, especially when they come with interesting passions, gardens, obsessions etc.
Must admit I'm stumped on the fragrance issue - I've never heard of meaning being ascribed to specific ones. My gut feel says that if anyone has ever commented or investigated, then the authors who might know are Anne Scott-James, Constance Spry or... ??? I can see her picture in front of me: now in her late nineties she was trained as a nurse and was instrumental in the whole UK flower-arranging wave that helped build cheer and pride after the war. There was during the course of the year a tribute - or possibly an obituary - to/for her in "The Garden", the magazine of the RHS. Or perhaps Beth Chatto will know - try her website for contact details.
Good Luck
Jack |
