Varigated Roses24 Oct '06 1:41 pm
Seeing the picture in the other forum got me to thinking... I've been wanting a varigated rose for my garden.
If you could have 'only one', which one would it be?
I want something that is nice and shrubby/bushy. Not too leggy. I want repeat flowering if possible.
I'll be planting it in an area at the front where it will need to be able to withstand the lovely *sarcasm* winds we've been getting of late, and it'll be near 'Yellow Charles Austin', 'Mary Rose' and 'Penelope'.
I've been tempted by 'Ferdinand Pichard' purely going by what I've seen in books, although it apparently is a tall upright bush and I'm hoping for width as well.
Any thoughts?

Just one would be difficult! I thught that the famous old fashioned straggley one would be my 'just one'. Oops. My latest is a modern one called Oranges and Lemons. I hope it's not too technicolour!

Multicoloured Roses6 Nov '06 6:26 am
Dear Anna, I remember how you loved that adorable Rose of Jack's, Bella di Bologna! And this one , that Moosey suggests, is a lovely colourful one, having on the same plant yellow and orange blooms!!
But there is a famous French breeder , that specializes on multicoloured Roses, calling them "The Roses of the Painters". It is the Delbard family, that has already created a new beauty, being baptized last September . It is called "Paul Gauguin". You can see it right here in their website:
http://www.delbard.com . Then, you press down on the right "les rosiers", and you can see the beautiful Rose Paul Gauguin. If you, then, press "Les roses de Peintres", you can see a whole series of adorable multicoloured Roses, even the adorable Claude Monet Rose!
The problem is, that I really don't know if the Delbard family , who is a very famous Rose breeders family, exports to New Zealand. You can ask though..The fact is, that if you google/images right the Roses' names you see in the Delbard site, you will probably have in English more information about them.

My favourite variagateds are all similar colours: Hannah Gordon, Handel, Watermusic and Pierre de Ronsard - all are glorious white and pinks

While they're not overly striped like Ferdy is they are pretty, especially the last one.
I googled a 'Ferdinand Pichard'... just because I like looking at it.
