roof terrace gardening in South London9 Feb '04 9:00 am
Does any one have any ideas for plants / flowers to start a roof terrace garden at this time of year in London? Someone said I'd missed the daffodil planting season already.
The 'terrace' (flat roof with a metre-high wall around it) is on the north-ish side of a shallow slate roof. Apparently it gets sun all day round but I guess that's when the sun is higher in the sky - ie not since we moved in, Jan'04.
Any container-gardening ideas? Successes? Flops?! Help - I'm a novice...

Don't Forget to leave room for the barbeque9 Feb '04 11:28 am
With the english summer promising to be as hot and bothered as last year I'm looking forward to a few bbqs on my roof terrace so any plants better be in mobile pots or planters!! |

Flaxes & Lemonwood2 Mar '04 4:36 am
Call me biased but I'd be happy with four small flaxes in each corner for a start, although sandras post has me leaning towards a lemonwood tucked in against the house with a flax in the other three corners.
Problem is that NZ native plants of any size are pretty expensive in the UK, especially in London. A recent spate of home improvement shows have all used new Zealand native flaxes and hebes.
I might be biased but not enough to pay 25 quid for a flax |
