Nice to put a face to you Dixie and am I surprised that you look so good? No. For those who haven't yet explored her posts, this here's one mighty busy and artistic lady!
And welcome on board Anna! Look forward to many contributions!

Thanks for your compliments - one is reminded of the Gilbert and Sullivan song "She may verywell pass for forty-three in the duskwithelightbehindher " (When I was a kid ,I used to think that was funny )
Photos taken last week of the area in the first photo -where the two huge trees were felled .It is in the distance of the narrow grass path from the gingko and bluebells.

sorry it's a bit out of focus -young delphiniums on the right ,and 'Golden Wings' just starting to be in leaf in the centre .

Choisya and the passing of years26 Oct '06 1:22 am
It is looking lovely, Dixie! And your Choisya puts mine to shame - it has been hiding behind (no under) a buddleja and beneath a dripping pine. It is covered in black soot and had about three flowers. After four years it is still a scrawny knee high plant. NEEDS NURTURING! Especially as Moosey has me coveting 'Sundance' which will no doubt cost a packert IF I can find it in SA... better learn to look after Choisyas...
My favourite body-quote is from Sondheim's musical "A Little Night Music" (where 'Send in the Clowns' also comes from) and is sung by a middle aged man (to whom "Send in the Clowns" is addressed by his newly rediscovered ex-mistress, after they had both for several years dabbled rather excessively with unsuitable partners, mostly younger than themselves...) He sings it as he is about to make a move on his very young but still virgin wife: "my body's all right but not in perspective and not in the light."
Comes to mind rather often these days...
Perhaps that is why we love gardening - it is one thing that really improves with age and a little extra 'weight'???

Love the garden pictures. Looking beautifully healthy.
Just wishing I could come up with a musical quote but my mind's a blank.

I just found this photo ,looking the other way .Gingko on the right Smiley bought me the archway for a birthday; unfortunately it was a 'construct it yourself 'type ,so that puts a strain on a marriage ,deciding where all the bits of wood go .Then I painted it the same blue as the house rails .
I hung some wind chimes from it ,and my little granddaughter ,who could not use her arms ,used to love to touch the chimes with her head and make them ring ,when I carried her underneath.

cannas and dahlias9 Nov '06 12:03 pm
Enjoying the cheerful cannas next to the blue archway.
The dahlia in front is 'peaches 'n cream' ,a miniature decorative variety (larger than a pom) .My favourite type ,as they are a compact ,formal type ,but must be staked.
