14 Mar '04 11:05 pm The first New Zealand design ever put forward has been accepted to show at Chelsea this May.
The designers of '100% Pure New Zealand Ora – Garden of Well Being’ are an impressive looking bunch who have been working on the garden design for three years.
The rare native plants will surround a spa pool and thermal terrraces. It appears to be quite North-Island-centric...?
19 Mar '04 8:42 am It might have, instead of a water feature, a bubbling boiling mud feature! A mud fountain! With steam vents and noises of plopping and squelching. Eek!
Wonder if any garden designer has ever built one such? - probably...

Mud!
27 Mar '04 10:33 am I would just like to say that I strongly support your plans for a bubbling mud bath feature thing ... will it be big enough to get in?!
I haven't witnessed these fabled New Zealand mud and spa pools ... I have been in a big natural mud bath somewhere else tho - its annoying me that I can't even remember which country it was in It was fantastic tho!
Bring it on, Moosey! Bx
ps Boiling? Perhaps I have the wrong idea... Back to gardening talk!

10 Jul '04 1:15 am All was made clear on the day! The mud pools are boiling (and steaming!) but traditionally are cooled down for bathing by an elevated pipe... what a great idea.
This and other features of the fabulous Chelsea New Zealand garden are included in my article.
The show garden was truly spectacular - and thankfully the judges agreed, awarding the team a gold medal
