I have always wanted an area in my garden where I can walk amongst the plants and flowers. I see pictures all the time in magazines & books so I have decided to have a go. My August project. I want to eventually have it like a gravel garden but Im starting with mulch and will change it over later.
I thought a birdbath might look good in the middle as well. What do you think?
Here are some pics of progress so far....

It has the natural look I love ,Goose. I can see an archway to walk through too .Did you cut out the bark path ,as they do on TV programmes ? or lay the weedmat over grass then cover with bark? Weeds are a problem in country gardens .

It's looking real good so far. I like the stones in the walkway. Are you going to ad a bench or seat of some kind? Always nice to have a place to sit and think or read.
There is so much you can do with this project. I will be interested to see how it goes.

I adore the ideas you have outlined of wildflowers amongst the shrubs on the walkway ,Goose. I have heard that you need to spray before you plant wildflowers .I wonder if anyone else on the forums grow wildflowers -

I love wildflowers and have grown them before. I do spray the larger area I grow them in but you can just sow them in amongst your garden as well. See www.wildflowerworld.com
This is where I get all my seeds from by mailorder and they have complete instructions for growing everything they sell.
I also found another site you might be interested in Dixie
www.ashtonglen.co.nz (not wildflowers)

I love the wildflower site ,Goose .Thank you ,and your picture of your own ones too -I enlarged it to view it better .I have never thought I could do anything like that ,but might just think about it now, as we have a long driveway where they would look good.

I agree with Dixie, the wild flower site was great! Lots of info about the flowers and it's given me an idea - I have a corner of the garden which is a bit of a nothing-space right now; my husband has talked about putting a pond in there but, to be totally honest, I think that might be a bit much for us take on just now, plus I'm not sure that spot gets enough sun. I'd love to have it filled with wild flowers - it would look so beautiful!
Your own wild flower border is just gorgeous - I hope mine ends up as well-filled!
