Thanks to Dixie and Gordon for your kind words. I have just enjoyed reading Moosey's latest Journal entry and feeling garden envy I must admit. How nice it would be to be in summer garden mode again, but I know all gardens and their attendant gardeners need a rest period, so I will try to bide my time and do a lot of dream gardening over the next few months. Here in my corner of the planet it will be time to start new seedlings in just a couple of months and I have a lot of work ahead of me to clean up all my beds in preparation for a new growing season. I think I should get to the tasks ahead and stop wishing my time away. |

I've enjoyed very much seeing your latest shots, Faith! They're all so lovely, especially fave the Bradford Trees in their stunning autumnal beauty and the spider web in fog with such a size and fabulous details! Thanks for sharing and wish you all the best in preparation for your next planting. Take care, dear! |

Thanks friends19 Dec '07 1:37 am
Thanks to Jacqueline and Liza. I just returned yesterday, Monday the 17th, from a visit with my daughter and her special guy friend (it seems odd to call him her boyfriend, since they are both over 30 now). We had such a nice visit and spent a whole day at the San Diego Zoo seeing so many wonderful animals. I thought of all of you, especially Liza who loves all animals. Unfortunately, I didn't remember to take my camera. Can you believe it? Oh well, time to return to the real world. Thanks again for your sweet words. |

Hallo Faith!19 Dec '07 8:31 am
Good to hear you had a great time with your daughter! I somehow missed your post, so I've gone back and found your pears - how those trees speak to me! I remember them from (I think) your very first post on the forum... Autumn colours and mist are a magical combo. I sometimes look at my shots and think people won't believe the colours are true - neon, as you say! |

Nothing much to report, just popping in16 Jan '08 4:04 am
We are still stuck in the January doldrums here in Alabama. We have had some very beneficial rains in the last two weeks that I am very thankful for. My back pond is again at full pool; however, we have not had enough rain to cause runoff into the smaller pool beside my driveway. I am still hoping that one morning I will wake up to a pond again instead of a big hole in the ground. We are predicted to have some more rain tomorrow afternoon and evening, but some extremely cold temperatures again, so we may get a little sleet as well. That's usually what we get in the south instead of beautiful soft snow. My little flock of ducks has had a tough winter with the two females being killed by Coyotes. The two remaining males have given me a couple of scares when they suddenly disappeared for a whole day. I finally realized that they have just figured out that there are other ponds in the area and that they can fly to them. I think they are roaming around in search of females. They come back here for their corn, but then disappear again. Oh well, you can't control nature. I think if I try more ducks, I will have to go for more domesticated types that will stay close to home.
I have been concentrating on inside projects for the last couple of months, so my gardens are being ignored for the moment. I did manage to get out and clean up the butterfly garden last week and scatter seeds for snapdragons and larkspur. I hope they will germinate and give me some spring color among the daffodils (which are emerging now) since I did not plant pansies this fall. The draught was too severe and I decided that I shouldn't be putting in new plants to be watered.
I will continue to enjoy reading about the beautiful gardens of my friends in the southern hemisphere until spring finally arrives for me. |

Promised photos20 Jan '08 2:09 am
Thanks Jack, I will be looking forward to your new photos. We are being promised (pretty strong for weathermen) 1-2 inches of snow today. If it really happens, I will be out snapping away. I'll take precipitation in whatever form it takes though. We still need lots of water. |

Hello again, Sweet Faith!25 Jan '08 7:31 am
It's good to hear from you again!! And I did not like at all about those hungry Coyots...Poor things...The thought about domesticated ducks sounds great!! It is great you have worked already a little in your garden! I have not worked in mine since November, and today I discovered my Hamamelis are in bloom! I am going to write details in my Diary!! |
