It is very interesting,Faith-In some previous photos there are horses,so it is clearer from your plan to visualise where they are-I was trying to figure out where your gorgeous seat/swing was under the rose(New Dawn ?)

Dixie, you must have been online at the same time as me. I almost missed your post. The swing arbor covered with the New Dawn rose is at the front center of the mixed perenniel border (no. 12).

New pictures6 Nov '07 3:35 am
Well, I should qualify this by saying that these are new pictures of old things. I have posted pictures of these same things previously, but thought a few new views might help illustrate areas of the site map posted earlier. I took some of these yesterday morning and some today, so the light was different. We are predicted to have temps in the high 20's F (-4 C) tonight, so I think all the late roses will be frostbit tomorrow morning.

A picture of my dog Willie wondering what's up with the camera already. He is so camera shy, that it's hard to get a good photo of him. He is a very expressive and communicative dog normally.

This is the tail end of the season for this border. Looking a little scraggeley, but still a few brave blooms here and there.

Faith, I loved your photos. The one of Willie is so funny! His expression reminded me of Scooby-Doo - I can almost hear him saying "Huh? Shaggy!" in that voice of his!
Your veggie garden looks nicely tucked up for the winter and the whole garden has a lovely peace to it I think - it looks so relaxing, like you could just sit and enjoy.

That was fun.6 Nov '07 12:29 pm
Lots to see here but what was new and interesting for me to see was your potting area. I figure if I were you I'd be spending a bit of time in that place and I like the way you have it fixed up.
Willie's expression is priceless and I like Bambi's description of it. You still have lots of blooms and some good fall color too. I still like most of all those trees (pines?) that are tall and open and wispy.

Hello friends, Dixie, Mark, Bambi and Liza7 Nov '07 2:02 am
Thanks for your comments. To answer Dixie's question, my original plans were to start the new rose berm this winter; however, as I mentioned earlier we have some projects on the house to complete first. We are currently working on converting a second canvas awning structure to a wooden trellis type awning. We completed the one on the kitchen deck in October and now have started on an even longer one over the double garage doors.
Willie, does look a little Scooby Dooish in that picture doesn't he. Sometimes I think he can almost talk like Scooby Doo as well.
I don't know if you noticed how sparse some of the Bradford Pears are looking. That's because several of them have lost large sections of their multiple trunks over the past couple of years. They are of an age when they are very susceptible to shattering in high winds. I don't know how many more years we will have them.
I also love all the pines we have. Especially the large one that is just behind the fence alongside the cutting garden. I have always loved the sound of wind shushing through the pines. It brings back childhood memories because my childhood home was surrounded by pines.

Ugly Awning.jpg
This is what the old awnings looked like. Sadly in need of replacement.

This is the almost completed wooden replacement on the kitchen deck. You can see the ladder is still in place for the finishing touches.

Frosty Morn8 Nov '07 1:26 am
Well, we had that heavy frost that was predicted last night. I have been out early this morning taking pictures of frosty roses and other things. Now, I'm back inside with a hot cup of coffee trying to thaw my frozen hands. I will upload the photos for posting later. Cheers to all and I hope you will all have a wonderful day in your gardens!
