Thanks to both of you for your wonderful compliments. The climbers on the swing arbor are New Dawn Roses mixed with 'Etoile Violette' Clematis. I ordered this combination from a catalogue and they had dubbed it "Dawn and Dusk". Very pretty when the deep purple clematis blooms peek through the pink roses.
My husband and I have really enjoyed working together on all our projects. For the most part we achieve them without too much argument. Although, I will admit there are times when we just have to take "time out".
We are very fortunate that we have so much space to work with and that we both enjoy the outdoors so much.

Fall Color14 Nov '06 9:30 am
Some time ago I promised to get some pictures of our trees once they took on their fall color. Well, finally, here they are. I am also including photos depicting the birth of my latest "Rose Berm". Hope you enjoy them.

Fall Color15 Nov '06 3:34 am
Dear Liza, thanks for taking the time to read about my fall garden and plans. The fall color in the Northeast USA is usually much more impressive than ours in the Southeast; however, this year we have had beautiful color. I have truly enjoyed my travels in the car because it gave me a chance to view the lovely hills covered in brilliantly colored trees.
Anna, thanks for your kind comments. By the way, I too am a Tolkein fan who has read The Hobbit and the LOR Trilogy several times. Is the Avatar Gollum?

Ah, now I see where your comment on the other forum was aimed.
Did I give his name? He's 'Rob Anybody'. And he's the head Nac Mac Feegle in his clan, after the Kelda (like a Queen).

New rose berm2 Jan '07 7:25 am
Hello again to everyone. After dropping our daughter off at the airport for her return to California, we decided to purchase the stone pavers to complete the seating area in our new rose berm. Of course, there are no roses installed as yet, but that will come in the spring.
The pictures below show the new berm with seating area complete. The arbor that can be seen (somewhat) linking the old berm to the new one was a gift from my co-workers upon my retirement. I hope to have two beautiful climbing roses growing on it by summer. I have chosen a lovely single peach colored rose named "Bridge of Sighs" for one side and a double peach to buff colored rose named "Ginger Syllabub" for the other. I can't wait to see how they will do.
For now, dreams are all I have as you can see from the photos that everything is rather drab and lifeless at present.

Faith, dear Dixie has spoken for me! But I also "see" some brilliant red and white Roses in your dream Rose Garden, apart from the peachy ones, of course...

Thanks Dixie, I can't think of anyone I would like to share my dreams with more than my Forum friends.
This morning after picking out my horses stalls, I decided to get some photos in the early morning sun. I tried to get pics of the horses viewed across the pond, but of course by the time I had retrieved the camera from inside, they had spread out. Before they were all standing in a nice group close together, which would have made a nice picture. The other pictures are of my Christmas present cranes that have been installed beside our smaller marsh pond. We call it the marsh pond because in winter when the rains come the small pond spreads out to cover a low area alongside making a seasonal marsh. Some people might not like the untidy look of the marsh once all the rampant growth starts in summer, but we rather like it being wild. We mow it all down in late fall when the ground is dry so it can start fresh once the winter rains come. I also tried to get some flower pictures to include, but since all I have right now are pansies (and those looking a little worse for wear) that's all I could include.
Winter here can be beautiful if you appreciate the small things.
Faith

This is our big throughbred, Willie, who as usual came to check me out as soon as I tried to get his picture. He still has shavings on his back from his night spent in the stall.

Cranes across water.jpg
The new cranes seen from across the marsh pond. We don't have cranes here in Alabama, but we do have Great Blue Herons, which look almost the same. It will be interesting to see if our resident heron will still come around with these intruders.

Another view of the cranes from closer. This one shows their placement just after the bend in the entrance drive. It's nice to come around that bend and see the surprise.

This bed lies next to our driveway and is filled each fall with pansies planted among the dormant daffodils of all types. They sit without putting on much growth, but still blooming bravely, through the winter. Then in spring when the bulbs start bloomi

Pansies in pot.jpg
This pot sits at the bottom of the steps to our back deck. It has a mate on the other side of the steps. In summer I change to other plants, but for winter the only thing that will do is pansies.
