Garden Seats7 Sep '06 2:27 am
Hello to everyone. It feels like I have been gone a month. In actuality I only missed a week. I'm happy to be back now and I have the photos of garden seats I promised Glenn. I am truly blessed with a wonderful spouse who, though not a gardener, is very supportive of all my efforts in the gardens. He never expected to become a carpenter when he married me, but he has turned into a fine one since. Together, we have done major and minor woodworking projects. My many garden seats are examples. I am also throwing in a couple of extra photos of other projects he has done for me. Of course, they are in reverse order to how I intended. Hope you enjoy them.

Back border arbor swing.jpg
This arbor and the swing were built with the help of my husband's brother and sister-in-law.

Glenn, this is your bench under the pines. It was built totally by my husband (no help from me).

This is a glider that sits underneath a large oak tree. The memorial garden is behind the seat.

Meditation garden bench.jpg
This simple little bench sits in the meditation garden. It is very spartan by design.

Potting area seats.jpg
These chairs and the little table between them have been moved around all over the farm and have sported several different colors. They now sit in the potting area.

This little bench sits in the middle of my potager (vegetable garden).

Vege garden entrance arbor.jpg
This is the entrance arbor for the potager. These purple hyacinth bean vines reseed themselves here every year now.

Rolling seats.jpg
My husband, Bill, built this clever rolling seat for the area on the far side of our little pond. It is easy to move when mowing. It sits just outside our small orchard area.

Cathy's Bridge.jpg
This is Cathy's Bridge. It was built in memory of our oldest daughter who died in an accident in 1998. She loved our little pond, so we decided the bridge would be for her.

New glider 2.jpg
This is our newest glider. It was built in late August by my husband, his brother, and a cousin. They are all very close and we try to have a group weekend at least once per year. The guys always have a project to complete.

Japanese temple bell.jpg
This is the Japanese temple bell I mentioned previously. It stands in the meditation garden. Every so often I ring it in memory of all those I love who have gone from my earthly realm. Pretty sappy, but I'm just that way.

Back border entire.jpg
This is the back border in late August. The zinnias have taken pride of place, but the roses are starting their fall bloom. The white flowers are garlic chives that I have allowed to reseed.

Beautiful! Romantic! Practical!7 Sep '06 5:26 am
Yes, dear Faith! Oh! All this great work it is really SO beautiful!! This is the besr ever ....garden-living-room I've seen in my life!! Of such a good decorative taste, so creative, so artistic! And although just the plain natural wood is a touch of excellence for every garden ( and interior), the blues --all the shades of them !!--- and greys here look terrific on wood!! I love the forms, I love ...everything and all of them!!
You are a blessed wife gardener with such a talented, willing husband to help you in your projects in the garden. A big Bravo!! To both of you!
I have to tell you I was very shocked about your child...Words are just nothing in this case... To say "I am sorry!", it is just nothing...Nothing...

Dear Faith, I was fascinated to see all your seat pictures - and wondered abut the word 'glider' - which I've never heard of. I love the look of all your lovely husband's carpentry. Hmm... I hope that next year I'll be able to visit and sit down on these lovely garden seats, in person!
Faith, Liza is a lovely, wonderful friend - I am so glad that you have 'met' her. She's the very best!
I think that the 'glider' is my favourite! Does it do anything, like - well - glide?

Glider8 Sep '06 1:15 am
Yes, dear Moosey, a glider does indeed "glide". It is like a swing that is hung from a frame on short chains. Very soothing to sit and glide while mulling the next move in the garden; or just watching the hummingbirds flit around the feeders hanging around the garden.
I do so hope you will have that opportunity to sit in all my garden seats.
I am also really happy to have met Liza. She is so sweet and I love the posts she leaves for everyone. Are you reading this Liza? Your fan club is growing.

I'm truly impressed with all the beautifully designed and creative garden woodworks in your lovely garden, dear Faith! Most remarkable is they're mostly done by hubby and yourself. Must have been wonderful to discover that you're both blessed with such great talents! Seats look so comfy and I especially love those hearts carved at your gliders!
Thanks for sharing.

Faith, I have only just had the delight of seeing your amazing creations (somehow I missed your post when you sent it ), but you and your hubby are so talented to make all those seats yourselves! I love the arbour swing with the climbers around and above it - are they roses or something else growing up there? And Cathy's bridge is just perfect, going over the stream there; I was so sorry to read her story though.

What a beautiful garden you have! I really envy you those majestic pines.
And the garden seats, especially the gliders ... just perfect. Your husband should make up diy kits so that we could all order them!
