12 Feb '04 12:08 pm When this site is up and running I'm going to see if Stephen would like to run a weather station and record some climate data for a while. He's mad on the weather and would enjoy a chance to tinker and potter.
I've seen ads for quite comprehensive weather stations including wind meters, rain gauge, pressure and humidity that will log results to a PC via a serial port. Some of them record soil pH and soil moisture!
Unfortunately Moosey's Country Garden is in a rural area and the distance from the nearest telephone exchange limits our internet access to dialup only or we would be able to offer live online weather information.. I'm getting carried away now
Would you like to see any more detailed weather information on the site? Know of any suitable products for recording weather information?

We are pretty rustic here - for example when the water race is silty and dirty looking that means it's raining in the mountains. Useful info if you are just about to set out on a tramp in Arthurs Pass, but otherwise?
And Stephen may be the greatest engineering nerd in the world, but his rainguage was leaking for many weeks - his rainfall results were puzzling him - oops! Imagine the mis-information trouble he could have caused!
Then I remember you have lived in New Zealand.... hee hee

The weather stations don't predict they just measure - Stephen is more than welcome to try his hand at weather forcasting though. I trialled live weather information on a test mooseys country garden last year and found it lacking - I think it was a general Christchurch reading and it seemed to lag behind by several hours.
I'm off into town to look at digital garden cameras!
