Just beautiful.....11 Jul '06 3:29 am
and lovely pictures as usual, Christopher! Deb's tuberous begonia is a dazzler. I've previously planted begonias quite similar to Deb's in appearance except that their blooms were chilli-red that contrasted beautifully against their lovely green leaves. However, I've noticed that they're super sensitive to direct sunlight and overwatering by the rain, as well as dislike to be shifted around. Thus, I no longer keep these high maintenance plants, though I'd loved having them then.
Thanks for sharing.

Lovely flowes!11 Jul '06 10:30 am
Oh, Christopher! I just love your fluffy Daisies! They are not at all crazy! They are adorable! How I would love to have some in our garden! All the little darlings are just lovely!
Your mystery 5, is a plant I am eternally in love, too, only it needs dead heading all the time : Coreopsis!
Your mystery 4, is an adorable blue Erigeron, a cousin of the other Erigeron you liked so much in the soft pinks, remember?I'll post for you again the pink you liked so much, together with some blue ones with the company of a perennial, frost hardy adorable Anthemis ( : "tinctoria", I think..).

New Pix and Plants13 Jul '06 7:24 am
Thank you, Liza, for the explanation. The Crazy Daisy is one of my favorites. The seed pack said "Crazy Daisy" but the full botanical name is:
~ Leucanthemum superbum 'Crazy Daisy' Shasta Daisy ~
Here is a quote for you.
"No two blooms are just alike on this incredible just-for-fun Shasta Daisy! The 2 1/2-inch blooms are fully double -- in fact, they're so crammed with petals you might be tempted to call them triple! -- and boast solid white petals around a small, buttery center. Beyond that, every bloom is distinct. The petals take just about every form you can imagine, from quilled to frilled to twisted to flat! On a plant in full bloom, this creates an unbelievably lush, chaotic effect!
The plant reaches 24 to 28 inches tall, making it a great size for beds, borders, or even containers. A hardy perennial, it is long-lived and very vigorous, blooming in great abundance all summer long. The flowers are triggered by warm weather, so once the heat begins, so do the daisies! And they won't stop until the first cold snap!Start seeds indoors or sow direct anytime between early spring and up to 2 months before first frost. They do best in full sun and are not too fussy about soil type. "
I just love the look of daisies and daisy-like flowers. I have a few pix of the unusual plants I have collected.
Aside from that, We bought 4 more roses yesterday. These are full size rose bushes and they were on sale for half price. We are planning a new rose garden in front of the new deck for all our rose friends.
On with the show!

Picket fences ,roses and daisies ..In the depths of Winter ,a lovely scene for us here .I have the gorgeous white daisy with the deep blue centre .It is South African ,but I can`t think of the name at the moment (Help! - Jack )
It is a wonderful ground cover on a dry bank ,with masses of flowers ,it will grow easily from cuttings (so Mom can give them away to all her friends !)I must take a photo of mine next Summer ,as they spill over the bank beautifully.

Sunshine!13 Jul '06 8:01 pm
Wow, Christopher! You've got a great collection of beauties in your garden, sharing sooo...many varieties with endless forms and colours, and bringing sunshine on my face today . Love them all, especially the new orange begonia with its lovely hues of orange and greenish tint and your trailing magenta blooming abundantly with its exquisite colour is truly outstanding!
Like your colourful garden, Deb's vegetable garden is evolving beautifully too! Thanks for posting them

Adorable new plants, Cristopher!15 Jul '06 10:00 am
I love them all, and especially your explanation for the Crazy Daisy! Thank you so much! If I'm lucky, I could find her in the U.K. by looking in the Plant Finder of R.H.S.' site. And concerning the mystery 7, it is a Lychnis Chalcedonica.
As for Bonica, she IS a lady! A healthy, stunning, repeating Floribunda Rose! You will all adore her! Here is a photo of mine:

Photographing Rose Labels and Bonica17 Jul '06 9:42 am
Christopher, you are an absolute legend! A fellow gardener who has the single-mindedness to publish photographs of rose labels of the new members of the family!
And I love the daisy colours.
Bonica is sold here as a ground cover type rose - does that make sense? I bought some for a small garden I designed for where I used to work (aargh! We won't ever go back therrrrrre!), and planted them with this in mind. Hope they're alright! They also have a reputation for being tough and OK to be neglected - hence their inclusion in the easy care garden design. Hmm... Wonder how big they'll get this summer? Oops!

Sunday Fun in the Garden17 Jul '06 8:10 pm
Thanks, Moosey. It will be a while before those new rose friends come out for a peek. For the time being these are the only pix I have of them. I thought If I posted what I had then I would get some comments, and I did, and I'm grateful for any info I can get. I'm totally new to roses for the most part.
It was another hot day in the yard. I am still hard at work on the new ramp. I also made some shelves for some planters. They are perched at the top of the main fence posts all along the south fence garden. There are 6 of them.
Mom came over today and she and Deb took apart the old garden in the front, Mom's garden, we like to call it as she has planted it exclusively. So I gave her about 20 bidens for the border of the garden, but they grew so gangly and awful looking that we decided they had to go. So this afternoon the girls tore out the bidens and robbed 2 of the large white planters of their Petunias and planted a nice looking border.
Not much else to report. Lots of wood prep for the ramp and figuring out how it will ultimately go together. Lots of fun.
Deb's brother passed away this past March of cancer and her mom went to plant a pink rose with his widow at his grave site a couple of weeks ago. She brought back the pot that the rose was in before they planted it for Deb to have. This evening Deb and I planted 3 pink mini roses in the pot.

Dixie: Now, I got it too!! , no wonder Christopher's mystery flowers looked familiar. Thanks for naming them. Sharing below is my flaming red African daisy, also known as Gerbera Jamesonii.
Christopher: Those planters attached along your picket fence are lovely novelties! Love your beautiful and colourful flowers too, the blue clematis is my favourite being of a shade rarely seen locally here. Thanks for posting them.
Sorry to read about the demise of Deb's brother. May his soul rest in peace and the pink roses bloom abundantly to bring comfort and joy all around.
