I am so happy to see your flowers blooming , dear Chris! Especially your beautiful Clematis are both happy and healthy! So, you did the right thing during the planting time! And your Columbines are just gorgeous!
I loved your desccription of your profession in a post in the Fairy Garden Diary! You are a creative, imaginative artist, and an affectionate, tender heart! The perfect gardener/garden Gnome!

A little bit of sun today.13 Jun '06 9:50 pm
I managed to get outside this afternoon. YAY!
The ground is all soggy from all the rain, but the digging was easy and I got the expansion of the south fence garden all dug and ready for soil and flowers to go in the next time mom comes over. (she is very particular, don't ya know )
I also got all the rest of our half barrels installed on their gravel base, graveled bottoms and filled with soil. Deb and I planted the one we call the corner pot with 3 kinds of flowers in a 3-way pie shape with Zinnias on the back, Malva on the left side and Snapdragons on the right side. We hope they will all grow tall and block the terrible muddy corner the dog has created for herself. Mom bought a bag of Cedar Mulch we plan to put down in the dogs path so she is off the mud. I hope this works and keeps her cleaner. Enough with the muddy sheets already!
We cleaned out the back yard where Deb's new giant planter vegetable garden will go and tried the planters out in a few placements to get the right way. More clean-up to follow and I need to build the other planter.
Looks like there will be a overflow of flowers from the greenhouse. I am starting a "Secret Garden" by my shop and the back gate. Secret from mom that is. She never goes out there. She already tried to get rid of my little trees. ( she hates trees that don't fruit or look pretty), so I stuck them out there. She thinned out my Shasta Daisies too! I found a big bag of them ready for the trash can by the back gate. I am trying to rescue some of them in 4 old paint cans, and they are out in the "Secret Garden" too. When ever we were transplanting, mom would say "You can't plant all those! You should throw half of them out!"
I would say "NO! Not my babies!" and madly go about transplanting all I could save. So if I have a glut of plants on my hands, then it is my fault. But I don't regret it. All orphaned plants are welcome in my "Secret Garden". It may not be the prettiest garden we have, but it could be very special.
More pix to keep you up to date.

Future home of the Secret Garden. I like a good junk pile. A store house of raw materials, really. But this one is getting boring. The new junk pile will be hidden out of sight.

I say, Sjoerd, What is a Aquilegias? I am unfamiliar with that name if indeed we have them growing here.
Enlighten me please.

Sorry I didn't address your question of what an Aquelegia was. It must have come in as I was typing my response to you. Anyway...sorry. It looks as if I ignored your question. I assure you that wasn't the case, but Goose has answered it. They are columbines as she said. Aquelegia is the "proper" word we use here...Akelei is the Dutch word. Clear as mud? Ha ha ha... Maybe this is what they mean by "Double Dutch" Chuckle.
