Goose, I love the latest pics, particularly your self-seeded rose pic, no. 10 – what a beauty! And I love the graded colours on your no. 15 too.
Oh, if only I had room for tons and tons of roses (sigh!), but I’m allowing myself only one for now – one rose, one little section of sweet peas (which are coming along very nicely now, by the way – lots of little green shoots and forming their second set of leaves now ), one heather, one lavender, one rosemary…
The problem is that there are so many different plants and flowers out there, there’s a limit to how many of each I can have at the moment! Oh well, at least I get to see them in all your gorgeous photos – that makes me almost as happy as having them myself!

What a winner!2 Dec '06 2:40 am
Goose! What lovely pics! I suspect I've lost touch with your postings, and need to go back and pick up the thread... Love the hedge! Is it a zigzag, or like flats on a stage? Or must I go back and read to find the answer?? (Later: saw previous page (instead of marking) - will take up the challenge later in next week when I have finally cleared the school out of my rather tired mind! Now: back to work you naughty boy!)
I am green with envy of your self-sown rose. I have copied it, blown it up, studied it, and it looks to me like a winner! Does it repeat flower? How large is the shrub? Healthy? Is that lovely faded mulberry colour (at 10 o'clock near the center of the pic is a good example) before it pales as lovely as it seems in the pic? Time-span for fading from bright to near-white? The closed buds and stems seem a lovely colour too. MORE PICS! MORE NEWS! PLEASE!!
Are you asking about the red-edged rose busy opening? Is it perhaps Handel?

Hedge & Handel2 Dec '06 8:12 am
Bambi, it is surprising just how many plants you can fit in a small garden. I am sure you will choose only the best and it will look lovely. Thankyou.
Jack, yes I have checked my records and it is Handel thankyou, I couldnt remember last night when downloading.
The hedge - I wanted something different so I planted out 4 separate little hedges in half circles? 1 facing one way then the next facing the other .I was going to plant a tree in the centre of each one but as the hedge grew I loved it so much I decided to leave it as the feature. I have attached some more pics which might give you more of an idea.
I have several of these self seeded roses which all vary in colour. I have no idea where they come from as they all seem so different. But when I see another little plant I let it grow just to see what colour it is.Im sure they are from Wedding Day but cant explain why some are very bright pink.
They are all very healthy and grow huge (too huge).

I'm impressed with your self sown roses, they're beautiful. My favourite being the pinkest one. How old are they? Are they all from the same 'batch' as it were? ie. self sown the same year, or were they from different years?
I've never had a rose self seed. A hebe once, but then it looked pretty much like the parent plant.

Hi, again , Goose!
Well, this time I'm impressed by your "self-seeded" Roses, which are an excellent example of wild Roses or Species Roses! Your Photinias, are perfectly shining, following the meaning of their botanical name , which means : Photinia = She , who shines! Phos/fos/Φως= Light in Greek!

Wow, more beauties flowering!! Amazing and fascinating are your self-sown roses, though it's your Photunia hedges (especially shown in pic #35 against the splendid backdrop!) that captivates and enchant me so!! Thanks for posting, Goose!

Love the hedges, Goose - such a great idea to make them the feature themselves, because they're so often relegated to the edges, aren't they?
And the roses are just so sweet - I love them all!
