Wow! dear Goose, you've posted such a stunning image of your magnolias - the whites are so pure and petals so well defined! Scrutinizing your second picture, I'm amazed to see so many buds and hardly any leaves . Are their flowers long-lasting? It'll be lovely when all those buds bloom altogether and adorn the plant. Thanks for sharing and brightening my evening .

Spring Pics6 Oct '06 8:39 pm
Its a while since I added a post here. But I have some Spring
Pics for you to have a look at. I hope you enjoy them as much as I am enjoying my garden at the moment.

yellow water lily.jpg
This lily is special to me as I saved it from my Mums little pond when Mum & Dad sadly had to move into a resthome. The new owners got rid of the pond.Im so glad I moved it to my place.

Spring lovelies! And major pond-questions.6 Oct '06 9:54 pm
Thank you, dear friend, for posting this ...Springtime joy! Clivias are stunning, lovely blue Aquillegia and Lavenders , as well! They ALL are stunning! And, artistically, they are excellent close-ups!
Your pond Lilies filled me with such a tenderness and joy ! We are thinking/dreaming ( we=family) here to create a little romantic pond in the back garden real soon, in the middle of the lawn. In the way you talk of your beautiful Lilies , it seems they are easy growing water plants.. Do you have to give me any special advice on them and on "pond plants" in general ---I mean frost hardy perennials, of course. And what do you do, in order to preserve your pond clean and healthy, for the best of all beings living inside it and around it. Thank you in advance for your kind and useful answer !!

Dear Liza
I have only just seen your questions and apologise for not answering them sooner. I am no expert when it comes to ponds and can only say that with the larger pond (lake) that I have a lot of water lillies and wildlife and it more or less looks after itself. With my smaller (concrete) pond however I have a small water lily , some oxygen weed and 2 fish so far the water has stayed looking okay and the fish seem very healthy. I have believe it is to do with balancing the number of plants and fish etc. I wish I could help you more but I think your conditions will be really different- especially if your pond will ice over in winter.

I really thank you ...6 Nov '06 3:46 am
...so much for your answer!! But in the mid-time, I discovered very useful information in Moosey's pond-garden about the plants, and also in a very good English book, I already had in my garden bookcase,I found very good information concerning the right time of creating a garden-pond, the right plants, suggestions, etc.
As always, though, the precious information of my Forum friends, has invaluable importance for me !! So, thank you again, dear Goose!
Your summer garden in bloom is lovely, healthy , and joyful!! I just loved your pink Hemerocallis, cause mine, all, have shades of earth-colours...I'm sending you to admire -- and for everybody -- this funny-named new adorable Hemerocallis :" French Lingerie" !

I somehow missed your posting of Oct 6th ,Goose ,so have just been admiring your flowers today .Water lilies are a plant with their own magic .I have admired them in both formal and informal settings .
I am interested in your family dream of a pond of your own ,Liza - your garden will be such a beautiful setting for a pond .Will fish survive in Winter though?

Auckland's usually a few degrees warmer than us, so I don't think fish will come to any harm over winter.
My parents are just out of Warkworth and they have more fish than they know what to do with and they survive no problem. Their pond is a reasonable size and there must be upwards of thirty 'large' goldfish in there. (I forget what you call them when they get big, but I'm told they're not edible. Not that my parents have tried, I'll have you know! )
Back when hubby and I lived in the Manawatu, our first house we bought not realising there were (small) goldfish happily existing in the pond (quite a small one) by the front door.
The previous owner was deceased and no one had been looking after the fish, and to be honest I have no idea how long they'd been there but I'd assume they'd been through at least one winter.

Frigtening worlds..9 Nov '06 12:42 am
Dearest sweet,tender Bambi,
Having "felt " you deeply in our encounters in this blessed site, and knowing my son Dinos (25) so well for his deep, spontaneous tenderness, I just don't wonder how come you like this frightening avatar of dear Anna, and how come he is the most fanatic admirer of writer Tolkien ( :Lord of the Rings) !! He has read all his books, which have been published so far, in an excellent English Language, I must admit... This sort of human fantasy and inspiration is so out of my human nature/culture ! I prefer the Ancient Greek Mythology, with its silly gods falling in love or hating each other, in their romantic Greek country side, blue sea/sky, and light-green sunny mountains! After all, we are born in this physical world having a free Will, aren't we?
Sorry, dearest Goose , mixing Tolkien with your beautiful flowers..
