Darling Camellias!11 Jul '06 10:07 am
Well! I have been waiting for these photos! They are all exceptional beauties , but I agree : my favorite is your favorite! I think she is so rare, at least here in Belgium! Will you post photos of the whole blooming little trees? It would be so great!
I just started to realize the equivalent months of the seasons, in the North and South hemispheres! A good friend has already helped me to calculate, but now I know that July there to you, means February here . Which means , your Winters are Greek-like, not Belgian-like! Cause my huge pot Camellia is uncovered by her protection on the 10th every March (:August for you), and starts flowering from mid-March on, quite late in Spring compared to your flowering season...This last season was a destruction here in Belgium :almost all her buds failed to open and dropped, because we had abnormally prolonged frosts during 3 weeks! Poor thing..

Camellias are Stunners!11 Jul '06 6:16 pm
Wow! I have never seen one before. How like a rose they are. A beautiful plant that my Deb said she must have next year. Are they grown from a seed or a bulb? Please can someone enlighten me as to how to produce a happy camellia, as per what kind of soil and light she needs and perhaps when to plant?
Deb and I love the white ones with the pink edges, so tender looking.
Thank you for what you can tell us.

Wow! You north-islanders sure are way ahead of us Cantabrians - the ground is still hard in places here (although after todays rain it'll be a soggy weekend ) - I think it will be a few weeks yet before I see any blooms!
Although, I did spot a cherry in blossom on the way back from Amberley the other day!! Madness!! AND... I have * willow out (is that what they call it here?)..
Edit: hmm can't type pssy willow..

It's a beautiful Canterbury winters day today (Sunday) and the big Wintersweet tree (it's gone past being a bush/shrub!) in the garden is putting on a great show... shame I can't post smells as well as piccies!!
Enjoy....

What a beautiful winter shrub! I haven't got one, and I immediately want one too! Isn't it funny how the five year old child inside us is never far from the surface! Please, please, don't ever let me grow completely up! Though I wish my errant flaxes would, instead of lounging sideways like a spiky Jabba the Hutt (have I spelt him right? And does everyone know who, or what, I'm referring to?)
Hmm... Rather random! Time to get outside and garden! Your shrub pic is gorgeous. I can almost smell that wonderful fragrance!

Moosey - If you'd like a cutting or two (or, indeed, if cuttings can be taken) then you're quite welcome to pop over and get some
