My new Westerland Cl.25 May '06 9:03 am
I ordered climbing Westerland online. It arrived today. A beautiful bush in a 3 gallon container. It has blooms, right from the box. What a nice surprise. I am a bit puzzled however, by the color of the blooms. They are a pale creamy yellow. I was under the impression Westerland blooms are rather orange. The seller explains, the color of the blooms depends on weather. Would anyone care to share their experiance with this rose? |

Sometimes rose buds that are one colour, will open out to another colour ....I`m sure this is not the case with the gorgeous Westerland ---it is lovely soft orange at all stages. Sjoerd has written about his Westerland earlier in these forums. You might like to check a rose website that has a photo of every rose ...I recommend www.wairere.co.nz This is a rose specialist where I buy my roses -it is only about 20 minutes drive from my home .You can compare their Westerland photo with your plant ,and check out the other climbers -you may see the one you have been sent ! Do have a look at their garden photos too -they have worked so hard !
Let us know what happens .

Thanks Dixi. I checked out Wairere Nursery website. I marked it in my favorites! My rose blooms do not look anything like the photos I saw there. No trace of apricote. Mine are purly pale yellow. Since the rose is not tagged, I would say I probably do NOT have a Westerland, which is a great let down. Now to find out what I DO have (????) |

I think its terrible they have sent you something else.
Are you going back to them? I think they should give you a Westerland free to make up for their error. The pale yellow sounds nice anyway Have you got somewhere to put it so you can still put a Westerland in as well?

Fooey Isadora...! That sounds just like you ahve the wrong rose. I have one ros but that is beginning to split open and the colour that's showing looks red. It truly seems that you have received the wrong rose...and I find it VERY suspicious that the rose isn't tagged.
I would suggest that you telephone those folks and tell them that you would like another plant...and just send this one back. It doesn't sound correct to accept something that you didn't order....the Westerland is too good a rose to NOT have. Really.
I cant imagine that they would balk at refunding your money or exchanging roses to give you the correct one.
Good luck, Isadora, Keep us informed...you've got alot of support here. |

Definitely not a Westerland! But wait - it may provide you with some nice surprises - possibly fragrance? WOuld it be greedy to keep it as well as getting the real replacement? Can you even put the unknown in a big pot to watch what it does? Any excuse to have more roses! |

Re: Not very good27 May '06 2:21 pm
I hate to admit it, but I bought the rose on eBay. If you've had much experience with eBay shopping, you know it can be risky. I get more great stuff than bad, but once in awhile I do get a lemon (or in this case, a lemon colored rose, ha ha) I also bought a Fourth of July and a Berries n' Cream from the same seller, which both have the right color blooms on them. The seller insists this is a Westerland. Now I know he's wrong, but I'll keep it. |

Not a Westerland Cl.27 May '06 2:24 pm
Because this was an Ebay purchase, the best I could do was email the seller, who insists it's a Westerland. I have to look at the bright side. It's a huge, very healthy plant. I'll keep this one & call it my "Yellow Mystery" rose. |

The Yellow "Westerland"27 May '06 2:31 pm
Actually yes, it does have a fragrance which is so strong, it's blissful! I already have 31 rose varieties and still room for more. I'll keep this one, but I MUST have a real Westerland as well. I'm going to buy one on line right away, from a nursery website, not eBay, where I bought the yellow one.
I would truly love to discover the identity of the yellow rose. I will take pics ASAP & post them here. Maybe someone can help me figure it out. |

Yellow Mystery sounds great! When you see some flowers you'll be able to do some serious research. I think you might have been meant to meet this rose - often the most wonderful people we meet in life turn in quite lucky, random situations! Looking forward to seeing a photo. Then we can all get out our big books and have a really learned discussion about 'Yellow Mystery'! |
