11 May '06 6:05 pm The contrast from your very first photos is...strong! Plus the artistic quality of your last great photos!
No interesting comments on my previous post?? Maybe, I become motherly boring sometimes (like I become for my own children...Or, my own mum used to be...).

poor weather = untended garden diary
23 May '06 8:45 am Whoops, I've left my online garden diary a bit untended lately
The weather has played its part - all of the plants have been tucked away off the wall away from the gusting winds and heavy rain. Hard to believe that South east england is facing water shortages and hosepipe bans. I am going to see if I can collect rainwater from the spouting to water my garden with.
Thanks to you all for your encouraging words. When I framed the bee and lavender and sunlight rays in my camera I knew it was going to be a good photo.
When the weather improves I'll put the lavender back where it belongs and take some photos. last years lavender is coming thru and the carex grass is kicking in and boofing out a bit. Poor pot bound nursery plants! Eggy to the rescue!
In other news, the bird feeders and seed trays are beginning to work - I've seen a couple of different birds up on the terrace and a cheeky 3-storey-climbing grey squirrel has turned up a couple of times. Moosey spotted squirrel on the window sill, I rushed for the camera, the somewhat less than impressive results are shown below
HAH!!! I have more than 2 things to do / buy / organise for the garden which means I can make another garden list!
Latest Roof Terrace Garden List :
1. Roof Terrace Squirrelcam. Buy a webcam and setup some motion sensing software to record the squirrels and birds in action.
2. Deckchair(s) It WILL be sunny and hot and lovely soon.
3. Beer Fridge. The football world cup is just around the corner! Come on England!
4. Housebricks (*24) I want to raise two rectangular slabs of slate up to make some shelving and raise some of the plants up. Good gardens have lots of different heights of things.
5. A rainwater collector attached to the spouting.
The squirrel photography challenge has started. I will catch you in the act Mr Squirrel!

squirrelcam up and running
26 May '06 8:56 am I've setup my roof terrace garden squirrelcam and left it running today while I was at work. I returned home to find some footage of a pigeon poking around in the peanut tray!
Success! The motion sensor needs a bit of tweaking and I need to give my window a good clean. Tomorrow if the weather is nice the plants will go back up and I'll take some proper photos.
Not quite the squirrel but proof that squirrelcam works!

torrential rain outside
26 May '06 5:41 pm Its 6:30am, my day off and I am determined to do sort my garden out despite the torrential rain outside. I'll make moosey a cup of tea, get my thermals on and go and brave the elements.

The Birdfeeders Backfire!
28 May '06 5:51 am I must get some stones to cover my lavender topsoil. There's been a lot of rain lately and the birds have taken to pecking large holes in my precious soil to get at non-existent worms and grubs.
Last year's lavender was covered with little stones and pebbles and has escaped unscathed.
Argghhhh!!!!! I've even caught a very large pigeon digging up the soil and sitting on one of my lavenders on squirrelcam
28 May '06 6:06 am Eggy! What a lovely surprise the video film! I LOVED IT! Could we have similar films with the ...Moosey animal family members ?? It would be just great --- if only it would be easy to install a camera...

Mulch, Shelving and the Cacti Collection
25 Jun '06 7:17 pm The garden has changed a lot recently, I've covered all of the topsoil in a dry white stone mulch to bounce as much light around as possible and stop the pesky birds from pecking for non-existent worms and grubs.
I've been building a cacti collection and now have 40 or 50 different cacti (all labelled ) sunning themselves on some raised shelving. I say raised shelving but perhaps a plank of wood on top of the flax planted is more appropriate!
Moosey doesn't like cacti. I don't know why. I think it may be because Stephen the garden engineer likes them a lot.
I had a lovely BBQ in my garden yesterday with friends, when I have cleaned up all the mess (and cleared my head a bit...) I'll take some photos.

A London Heatwave, Bumblebees, Lavender, Cacti...
2 Aug '06 9:27 am It's been a while since I've posted, thought I'd catchup with whats been happening in my garden.
There has been a heatwave in london recently with temperatures in the low 30's for a week or so. I forgot to water for 4 or 5 days and lost 4 lavender plants. Another 3 or 4 are recovering slowly. Oh well another lesson learned!
I've put the water trays back on the bottom of the lavender planters. I think the size of my planters and the heat overrides Lavender's liking dry free draining soil.
One of the yellow waves has suffered a bit in the heat but is making a good recovery. The cacti have taken the heat in their stride tho a couple of the euphorbias have been moved inside to the bedroom mantelpiece where the sun is a bit more forgiving and the watering regime more regular
I love my garden. Its my most special place in the world, a place where I can go to and escape all my worldly worries.
I apologise for all the bumblebee lavender photos - I find photographing stripey fuzzy bumblebees guys buzzing around very theraputic.
