Rose Themes in a Garden7 Apr '06 8:00 am
Any excuse to buy new roses - For a while now I have been thinking about making a themed rose garden, choosing a common theme like e.g. roses with names of famous painters. This morning, I thought of a better one - how about roses with yummy foodie names? My latest favourite is well known - Raspberry Ice - sounds delicious! There will be Strawberry roses, and Chocolate roses, and roses with Cream in their names. Yum... |

Famous Painter Roses7 Apr '06 2:06 pm
I think there are quite a few roses named after famous painters. So I could impress my friends by telling them I have invested money in 'a Monet, and a Picasso' - just to mention two that I do have. When they ask me about security for such valuable paintings, I can blink and say "oh, no need for extra security. I just keep them in the garden behind the Willow Tree". Hee hee. |

Wine Roses?12 Apr '06 5:02 pm
There's Old Port, then there's this new rose Claret Iceberg which I'm hoping to buy. So the plan would be to have - well, I guess one has to call it like it is - a drinking rose garden! There'll be lots of roses with Burgundy in the name, too. And there's one - a hybrid tea? - called Whisky! Eek! |

Boozy roses...12 Apr '06 9:15 pm
Courvoisier is a lovely tawny yellow, not to mention an excellent French cognac... Amaroela is similar and named after the most popular South African liqueur.
And then of course there are roses one would love to have, if only they didn't have such silly names, or commemorate people you'd rather die than be associated with... blonde bimbo country singers for instance! |

The Most Boring-Named Roses14 Apr '06 5:16 pm
This could be quite a fun theme, and much better for one's health than all that whisky, or buxom country singers, etc. etc. The most boring, unromantic roses are required. For example, isn't there a David Austin rose with the heart-warmng name 'Financial Times Centenary'?
OK, I understand about sponsorship, but this is the least romantic name I've ever found a rose to have! I look forward to hearing others, even more boring! |
