The Lurking Charles26 Mar '06 7:40 am
I do hope there is a 'Happy Ever After ' for Charles, at present Lurking in Moosey`s bushes (see Moosey`s journal)
We are in dairy country round here ,but there are sheep farms on the hilly areas . Every year in October (late Spring ) the children in NZ have their Livestock day, where they bring a pet calf, lamb or goat and are judged on their care and knowledge of their pets ,and how their pets lead for them .
The photo shows my granddaughter waiting for her turn to enter the show ring .

Happy sheep...27 Mar '06 10:30 am
I just want to add, that all my life is THESE sheep I've been admiring ; round, and clean , and cute! And only in photos I happened to see them, or in U.K. from far away while travelling... In Greece I've only seen in the country side some miserable, rather thin and dirty sheep. Only their babies are adorable, as all babies are...as long as they remain alive.
And all my life I have been wondering how the sheep would behave as pets. Are they disciplined and loyal like dogs? Playful like cats? But, anyway, this photo with the golden haired little girls and their sheep pets, fills me with the most tenderest feelings...

lambs as pets27 Mar '06 12:04 pm
Yes, they make great pets,as do other NZ animals such as calves .
One of the things the children are marked on is 'obvious pet',when the sheep comes when its name is called . The children also walk alongside their pets and persuade them to go through an obstacle course (not easy). The cloth 'wall' around the show ring is so the lambs won`t get distracted .I have been trying to find another photo of my granddaughter and her lamb sharing a packet of potato crisps.(yes -lambs like chips !)

Lambs and Rams2 Apr '06 5:34 pm
My friend had a group of pet lambs who loved to eat bread slices (not suprising) and lemons off her lemon tree! now that did surprise me!
And as to Charles His Royal Ramness, he is now in charge of a small group of ewes, and is obviously much happier. I can see, though, that he is going to be absolutely hopeless on his own. I can almost hear the 'Typical male' jokes starting up. Ouch!
