I am enjoying your diary,C.G, I have a good memory for "Gardens I Have Seen" (wish I could remember other things )
A house very similar to yours by the seaside. The owner had shown remarkable self-discipline, in keeping to a limited palette of blue and white flowers,at the front of the house, and down the wide border of the path. She had a white picket fence at the front. Dixie.

Dear Cottage Garden!23 Feb '06 1:08 am
I went to your profile section to discover some more of your interests, and I discovered your beautiful website photos! I recognized those that you have sent us here, and especially that lovely one with the butterfly! And , yes! Now I know you also --like myself-- like cooking! But, well, this is a gardening website, if not, we could propbably exchange some healthy, vegetarian recipes..It would be fun...

Dixie - I would LOVE to have a white picket fence! I wanted one so much that I called the city inspector about it. Unfortunately there is an ordinance here that prohibits fences in the front of properties. I can put up picket corners so long as they don't extend more than a few feet.
Liza - Thank you for visiting my photo site! Its in bad need of updating. I just haven't taken the time to add the new photos. I also have a website at:http://home.mchsi.com/~organizers/wsb/index.html It also needs updated. LOL. But it has more pictures than the photo site. I'd like to change it all around and make it nicer. I'm still working on that one!
I love to cook! My veggie patch is very small but I grow and dry herbs, and I make all of our red sauce from my own tomatoes and freeze it. I also grow and freeze green peppers, shallots, and carrots. I love all kinds of fresh vegetables.
Being born and raised in farm country, I'd make a terrible vegetarian. I grew up in a small town, and we had an acreage in the country for the animals - cows and horses. My sister and I would walk to the farm (6 miles) to do the chores, then ride our horses back to town and keep them in the backyard for the day. Oh the joys of childhood. We raised our own beef so we were careful not to make pets of the cows. There was a nice farmer down the road who raised a few pigs. Dad would trade him a cow for a hog so we always had fresh pork. And there was a man with a mental handicap a couple of miles away who raised chickens and sold the eggs. Nothing better in the world than farm fresh eggs. You can't find anyone (at least around here) who still sells farm eggs.

Do you remember what time of the day you took your last , beautiful photo? Early morning? Before the sunset? I have personally noticed , that my flower photos become more vivid after a summer rain , when the sun quickly reappears, and also 2 hours before the sunset. Also, early in the sunny morning the plant colours acquire an exquisite brilliance... |
Thank you .. Good eye Liza, I'm not sure about the exact time but it was evening and your right most my pics where taken in the golden hours of light or when clouds created an opportunity... The bright sun of the daylight hrs are to harsh and usually wash out alot of the details..

Hi, there!23 Feb '06 2:00 am
Well, isn't it fantastic you are raised in a farm!! With horse riding!!But if I had a farm myself, it would be ONLY for petcows, petsheep, petchiken etc..
But , unfortunalelly, I belong to those....hypocrites , who are...partially vegetarians... Meaning, cooking mainly my tasty and healthy Greek vegetarian cooking...But, once a month I cook for my family chiken or ribs.. And we all love fish and everything coming from the blessed sea! And , of course , turkey on Christmas ...Well..

I think Quill is holding out on us! I think he needs to start a diary and post loads and loads of his photos!!!!!! I'd be willing to bet he's got a whole library to share.... Come on Quill.... ppplllllleeaase! I love your photos, too. And I'd love to see more of your gardens as well! Mature gardens are inspriring to those of us who are nursing ours to grow and develope.
Liza - I just don't think I could do it. As much as I love vegetables I'd die if I could never have another slice of ham.... or roast beef.... or turkey! LOL.

Only our biiig heart..23 Feb '06 4:02 am
My so good friend! I'm sure you will agree with me, that what really brings people in harmony together is their big HEART and their openmindness! Not the way they are raised, not the way or what they eat, nor where they are born...A big loving Heart! Isn't it really, this utmost spontaneous joy we all feel in this site, while we narrate our gardening experience and our lives, a proof of this Love? Because a loving heart is mostly a joyful one!

White picket gate23 Feb '06 11:40 am
Cottage garden --I absolutely COULDN~T go through life without a picket fence ! I made a white picket gate which leads to the paddocks of our 37 acre farm. The ground underneath was slippery in the wet, so I made a stone path. Over the archway (gardens MUST have archways) grows scented jasmine-lovely to linger as one passes through.
Liza-the Melbourne area of Coburg has a large Greek population, and my vegetarian daughter loves living there because of the European food --the largest shop for speciality foods in Melbourne,if I remember. On Saturdays there is a gathering of older gentlemen in the Greek fashion, who sit and talk-such a warm atmosphere. I bought some special mix of herbs to bring home and was so pleased the Customs allowed it through when I declared it.
Lots of chunks of fresh vegetables are tossed in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs seasoned with these special herbs (lemon pepper mainly) and baked in a hot oven. Delicious! (Hope it`s ok if I put that in as it`s a sort-of recipe)
Dixie.
