Here is the recent photo of the Fairy Garden .The area behind the cedar is full of ferns (and fairies) with paths through it. I have cleared all the grass of the remaining area and you can see I have started to cut more paths. The wishing well stands completed - I decorated it with hearts and forget-me-nots, and painted the wee bucket to match . I will plant more ferns ,blue and white aquilegia ,primroses ,bluebells , and things fairies and children and I like .

Tell me, Dixie: what is the actual size of the wishing well?Cause I want to imagine (and dream..) things properly. It doesn't look so tiny, though. And it is gorgeous with its red-white colours and heart decorations! You created it yourself, or bought it ready at a special place? Have your grand children seen all these Fairy world marvels, or it all belongs to your own "secret garden", your own world's miracle garden?

Wishing well16 Apr '06 6:49 am
I really only wanted a little WW ,Liza .It had three main parts to it ,so we couldn`t tell how big it would be until the three parts were assembled . I found the instructions at www.buildeazy.com ,where there are also instructions for lots of garden furniture . It is about adult shoulder height ,which is good after all ,as it is in proportion to the huge cedar and some of the larger plants ,such as the Fatsia Japonica ,and (thornless)rambling roses on the obelisk at the back.A child can sit inside it . Two of our granchildren live in Wellington ,so haven`t seen it yet . I am thinking of how to make children`s seats ---I want them round like mushrooms ,but am still working on how to do that .

I've heard...2 May '06 7:45 am
that fairies and faeries are strong little things, so I hope they're pulling their weight in these respective gardens.

stones for the garden14 May '06 7:53 pm
I am in Wellington this week .The Eastern Harbour where I am staying has a shore front of lovely shaped, smooth stones ,and people may collect them for private gardens .so I went down with a couple of supermarket bags to get some today .I paint them using lots of colours and place them in the fairy garden amongst the ferns .It has been so stormy ,and I watched the inter- island ferry parked (is that the correct term? )in the harbour waiting to go ,and it stayed there for ages .I felt so jolly sorry for the people on board ,as I went on the ferry once in bad weather and I still shudder thinking about it --it is apparently one of the roughest stretches of water in the world. Before I return home ,I will dig out some of the ground ferns from my daughter`s gully for my garden --they transfer well.

fairy garden update7 Jun '06 7:45 pm
The fairy garden has taken shape now. The paths go around the back of the cedar ,and there are lots of ferns there .
We made the 'bridge 'out of timber scraps I found ,and I taught myself to do mosaic .These are my first three .They are not set in place yet ,as I am still making more of them .The garden on the right is now planted with ferns ,and blue polyanthus .The wishing well will be on a circle of concrete which will be mosaic ed in the future .

What a magic place.7 Jun '06 8:36 pm
Your fairy garden is delightful! I am so taken with the idea. I have considered making a gnome residence in my garden, and will, but i never even heard of a fairy garden. I love the idea. I'm really taken with your garden too. How fun it would be to explore it and find the secrets.
I'm a fan of folk art and I really like the way you have painted the well and the watering can. The mosaic idea is intriguing as well.
A really magical place.
I want to make a watering can planter for our garden too.
