feathery dahlias15 Feb '06 10:16 am
Dixie, they are gorgeous dahlias. I don't usually like dahlias but these are all feathery and floaty-looking. Is that what fimbriated means...?
thanks for the picture

Hi there. Your replies are so encouraging.
'Fimbriated' means each floret is forked , or split .This type of dahlia was not accepted for a long time, but in recent years is now allowed to be displayed on the judging benches. I am too shy to 'show' but enjoy seeing the displays.
Dixie.

As a non-dahlia expert I am fascinated by the official classifications, and the history of the different shapes. Must say I am drawn to the big singles, and the silly cactus show-offs. I know they're not subtle, but I really enjoy the strong flower shapes. And the petals stay put in the wind (even if the stems flop over!)
Have you got any more pix?

Dixie - I think you should put your dahlias in a show! They are stunning.
I haven't grown them here, but the more I see them in catalogs the more I think I should add them. Especially in the front yard... it needs help! Dahlias are so vibrant and cheerful I think they would be a nice addition.

Your dahlias are beautiful Dixie. Mine have been a disaster this year because of the drought. Never mind, there's always another year.

Dixie, you have inspired me to take more dahlia photos. I am amazed how many different shades of red there are in my garden. Those lovely bees, I guess! Do you grow any dark foliaged ones? I took some seeds from my Bishop Llandaff (how do you spell that?) and some of them have turned into yellow flowers, with bronze foliage. Quite nice! Take good care of your lovely garden.

Moosey's Dahlia Days..5 Mar '06 8:48 am
Being always in love with scarlet red in flower blooms (as I am with blue, golden, and white ones), and being inspired ...by Moosey's inspiration on her own Dahlia's, I finally was sooo lucky to discover them! Here : Home, then Garden Articles, then Gardening Articles 2005, then Dahlias in Fashion, 5/4/005. Just loooovely scarlet reds and ...yellows!
