16 Feb '06 5:26 am Hi Bex, The catalogue indicated that Tamora grows 1m, but both plants I have stay small. I don`t have much luck growing roses in pots -though some people can; I think their root system needs plenty of room.

18 Feb '06 11:16 am I may have to look out for Tamora... she's very sweet.
When I moved in here a year ago the previous owner had planted a Leander hard up against the verandah and being the huge specimen it is, it was encroaching all over the walk space. She'd spent years hacking it back [ and to inside facing buds so all the centre was awfully congested]. I tidied up the centre [ well I had to do that to ALL the roses she'd massacred ] and moved it last winter. It was cut back hard for the move and hasn't recovered to it's former size, but now it has room to move and I'm sure will be glorious next year!
The roses arent entirely happy with me at the moment because their water ration is a bit skimpy. Some are flowering ... Queen Elizabeth, Prospero, Moonbeam and an unnamed probable David Austin, but quite a few are looking sad and sunburnt.
Maybe i should get of the puter and go give them some TLC before the temp hits the mid 30sC again.
cheers
Susan
18 Feb '06 1:14 pm I love the roses and thorns message you posted , and have copied it into my little book of special thoughts.
Natural bunches of roses are so pretty, and I liked your photo.
My daughter and son-in-law live in Coburg suburb of Melbourne.Phone call last night confirmed what you said about the temperature of 30 degrees ; pretty hot-inside as well as outside!
However the birdlife of rainbow lorikeets, galahs, budgies, and so many others is a unique experience for a NZer.I could hear them on the phone line !
Best wishes for 'Leander'--I`m sure it will come away-mine is flowering gloriously at the moment-I must get around to taking a photo.Because it is so vigorous,it is difficult to know how far back to prune it.

Glad you like the quote
18 Feb '06 1:17 pm yes well i suspect that it's been pruned back a little too hard but it was soo big that I wasn't sure of moving it safely.
I'm about an hour and a half north of yr family so add about 5 degrees!
cheers
