9 Mar '06 11:29 pm i live in a city that has many areas full of clay soil. Agapanthus and roses seem to thrive in clay, so guess what we have alot of here??? Agapanthus doesn't seem to be a weed here (probably due to our low rainfall).
You can tell the non-gardeners cos they are ones who put them in and forget about them, don't take them up to divide, so they end up in unwieldy clumps. People are often so timid to cut them apart with a spade, but they are so hardy.
I am assuming you tweaked your arty photo in photoshop or equivalent. Very nice. Isn't it funny, so many people would never wear orange and purple together, but in nature and in the colour paint wheel, orange and purple are absolute winning combination.
Glad to see someone celebrating the humble agapanthus.
I live in a place with heatwaves of 40 plus in summer, i am grateful to have at least the agapanthus, good old faithfuls, who will survive even those conditions in full sun.
Uses for agapanthus:
kids love to play with them, they become magic wands and swords!
inexpensive party table decorations (cut off most of stem)
use the dead ones to clear the cobwebs you have trouble reaching around the house perimeter
