Well I got the rotary hoe in this afternoon to munch up the area where the new vegetable garden is going.
Here are the pictures:
The rotary how in action
Half way through. Just going back over the area again.
The final result, with my 'bug eater' cleaning up behind.

14 Jul '05 7:49 pm With all this lovely spring weather we've had lately here in South Canterbury I thought it time I tested the waters with some seeds in pots.
Most have sproutd so I went out in the garden the other afternoon and planted:
3 rows of beetroot
2 rows of radish
2 rows of peas
I've still plenty more seeds so if these don't do well then all isn't lost.
Finally - the garden can get some rest and peace from the hens. I've seen no hens in the garden area since the fence has been put up.

Did you plant any garlic? Does it grow in Canterbury?

29 Jul '05 10:03 pm Yes garlic grows down here.
I got my hands on 1KG of organic garlic bulbs and have planted those in little pieces. Have made 3 rows.
I checked up on the vegetables yesterday after coming back from Australia and see the garlic has sprouted.

1 Aug '05 4:47 pm If you use whole bulbs of garlic while cooking, break a piece of that off and poke in the ground. You should have a new garlic bulb growing within a few months.

3 Aug '05 6:29 pm OK so you have a fill bulb of garlic that you can break into smaller pieces right?
Those smaller pieces you plant in the ground - pointy side up.
Thats it. Simple. Easy as pie.
