Garden Tour Nominations Please...19 Dec '04 10:19 am
We're accepting nominations for gardens you want us to visit. You can pick any gardens that are open to the public in Western Europe (mcg London Team) or in New Zealand (moosey)
The website manager and I wouldn't mind popping over to france for a long weekend so Giverny isn't out of the question...
Be creative and descriptive if you can but please don't put our intrepid garden reporters at risk. The water gardens at Wilhelma Gardens in Stuttgart, Germany are lovely but crocodiles lurk under the water lilies
Be as specific as you can in your nominations. Tullynally in Ireland changes a lot throughout the year - If you want us to catch an early spring sunset we'll do it!
This is a mooseyscountrygarden event so nominations will close when there are enough of them and voting will be open until Moosey says so.
To start the ball rolling here a some gardens I'd like to visit in Europe :
The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Cornwall, United Kingdom
Monets Garden, Giverny, France
Jardin des Plantes, Paris, France
Herrenhäuser Gärten, Hannover, Germany

The nominations submitted to date are conveniently all in the same area (South West England) which also happens to be one of our favourite areas of the country. Bargain!
Nominated by Swallowstitch, we have...
Sticky Wicket Gardens, Dorset
What a great name. A wildlife garden, looks wonderful.

Eden Project, Cornwall
Looking like an igloo made of bubble wrap, the Eden Project is a modern-day Kew gardens, built to preserve and explore plants and nature.

Nominated by Moosey, are the...
Hestercombe Gardens, Somerset
Over a century old, and includes resident firemen. What more could you ask for?

I reckon we can do them all in a week (!). Leaving plenty of time for international adventures, too! |

One very keen Business Class English garden tourist (me!) is wondering if the Moosey London team can cope on their own with all this garden wandering. For another garden to visit, there's a posh garden in East Ruston (Norfolk) called The Vicarage - I visited it in the nineties, and they were growing little Australian gum trees in the middle of perennial borders. I'd love to see how long the little Australian trees lasted - some people will do anything for silver foliage. Maybe they have used some Norfolk traditional coppicing method... |

What about going to the Beth Chatto Garden in different seasons (assuming that it is open, that is) - she is one of the real English gardener legends. I'd love to see seasonal photographs of the same parts of her garden. I love the ones already on the site! |
