Popping in for a quick visit
20 Oct '09 2:09 am Hi everyone. Bet you thought I dropped off the face of the earth. Well, not exactly. I'm still here at Bide-a-Wee, still gardening. I have lost one horse since my last post in APRIL (
Still have one horse, one dog and 14 muscovie ducks. It has been a tough summer for the ducks, however. I have had to nurse four ducks back to health after being attacked by a snapping turtle. The last one had to be rescued from the jaws of said turtle. I could hear and see her struggling and squawking on the pond before daylight. Kept calling her to come to me at the edge of the pond, which surprisingly she did struggling all the way. When she finally got close enough, I grabbed her by the neck and pulled her up to the bank where I was able to see the huge turtle clamped on. I had to beat on his shell until he decided to let go. The female duck was really torn up, but I slathered her with Furicet ointment and kept her penned up until she began getting around again. She seems fine now, but I'm not sure she can fly still.
Life has just been too darn busy of late. I hope the winter will allow some down time for visiting with old friends.

21 Oct '09 8:09 pm Oh my, that incident with the poor duck sounds scary! A turtle of all things, I would never have imagined.
