Beautiful Tiger Lillies in Shasta County!14 Aug '09 9:16 am
We came across these beautiful Lillies on July hikes near Brandy Creek and Boulder Creek (as well as a wild black bear!) and couldn't resist capturing them for future admiration! If only they would grow this tall and look this nice in my garden- they were about 5 feet

Growing in our garden. they look the same as the ones you found, but ours are a little different and they are only about 3 feet tall.
Enjoy.

This is the first year they have bloomed. Deb planted them last year, but they took all last year to establish themselves.

Christopher,
I'm so happy others love these lovely flowers as much as I do! I have some lillies in my garden, but was really surprised to see them growing wild in the back country of Shasta. There were single specimens very spread out, not like we tend to plant in our gardens, in bunches. Maybe one day I'll come across a patch in the wild - just gotta keep looking. Thanks for your reply!

Lovely flowers. There are two types of tiger lily: the common wildflower type and the oriental type. The oriental tiger lily must be planted by bulbs that can later be dug up and divided. The wildflower type grows from tuberous roots. The name of the tiger lily varies throughout the U.S. It is also known as Devil Lily, Leopard Lily, Columbia Lily, Oregon Lily, Western Wood Lily, Lilium Catesbaei, Chalice-Cup Lily and Lilium Tigrinum.

Thanks so much for the information, lilypotter. We are just getting into lilies, really, and this year have had a wonderful show. I think next year we will get more and make a whole flower bed just for them.
I include a few shots of some of our lilies from this year.

mom got these at her lawn bowling club's garden sale. All it said was "Lilly" on a piece of paper taped to the pot. She got two of these, but we are not sure of there name.
