I may well be sternly reprimanded for writing of sprays on this "natural as possible" site but sometimes even the best intentioned gardener succumbs to despair when she sees that foul, insidious, relentless twitch(couch grass) creeping through perennials which had previously been clean of such beastly intruders.
I have tried (honestly) to remove it by "green" methods..i.e. digging ,and also lifting the afflicted plants and removing each nasty white root one at a time, but sooner or later it comes back.
A friend has told me about a product called GrassKiller which I had trouble finding but was lucky today in being able to purchase the last remaining container at a reduced price as the Garden Centre is no longer going to stock it.
This spray says it is safe to use around and over anything as long as it is not in the grass family(or emerging bulbs).
It says to apply to actively growing plants so I shall wait for a spell of warmer weather, even though the twitch seems to be under the impression that it is perfect growing conditions already.
I will report back as to it's effectiveness.
In the meantime I would be interested to know if anyone else has used it/heard of it. |
