Exploring my sister region from Southern California13 Oct '08 4:19 am
So everyone says that New Zealand is just like California from top to bottom. Here it's cold in the north, hot and dry in the south.
I have to admit that looking at NZ garden sites on the web, it all looks very familiar.
I blog daily at Homebody.freedomblogging.com mostly about gardening, sometimes about other subjects. We love NZ natives here, tree ferns, flax and ornamental grasses are hugely popular.
Just a question - and excuse my ignorance - are the seaons opposite? In Southern California it is fall, asters and mums are blooming, alliums are sprouting, but just about everything else is heading into dormancy. Except California native plants. Because rain will be coming soon, California poppies, matilija, Blue-eyed grass and more will begin to grow. |

Yep. Everything's upside down here... we're in spring at the moment and speedily heading toward summer. |

So it is spring in NZ?13 Oct '08 1:41 pm
And I suppose it is morning there as I get ready to get into my pjs. Other than upside down, I think we have a lot in common gardenwise, depending on the areas - north or south. There are lots of rose gardeners, others who love clematis, bonsai, tropicals, or what have you. The biggest trend here is to garden on the dry side, what with our drought and all. Grasses, succulents, gravel gardens are springing up all over. |
