August Week 422 Aug '04 7:40 pm
Burning garden rubbish....sigh.. how I envy you Moosey... we are in a very strict fire permit area here and every branch and twiglet and dead weed destined for the bonfire(when it is allowed) has to be removed far far away from where it originated, which means a lot of extra work and more to the pont, missed opportunities for a quck and decisive slash and burn. These restrictions apply throughout the year and the site is inspected before the permit is issued so there is no "cheating" allowed.
I did not realise your lovely chooks were only temporary, have not found that particular diary note yet....so while you have them please keep slipping in the odd photo now and again...I'll enjoy them from afar and let you clean up their little indiscretions and listen to Rooster's midnight crow |

Garden Bonfire Restrictions22 Aug '04 10:41 pm
Coming from rain-soaked England, I didn't realise what a problem bonfires could be in some parts of the world. I'm quite used to the freedom to have a good bonfire to clear the prunings - but only if the rain stops for long enough to allow it! Oh, and if the wind doesn't blowing the smoke over to the neighbour's
I was fascinated (when visiting Moosey) by the fire warning sign at the end of the road, which has Blue-Peter style arrow pointing out the risk as low thru to high / danger. I peppered Eggy with Qs - Who is in charge of moving the arrow? What if they're on holiday?! What if someone changes it for a 'laugh'? I guess the system makes sense in that community, but would fail at the first hurdle in de-community-fied, over-populated England. (Grizzle!)

That "Guest" was me... I fluffed the post...heck, how many more mistakes can I possibly make.
Going back to the bonfires, whilst reading through some of Moosey's earlier diary entries I came across one where she was grouching about lighting yet another fire to burn her prunings. That's when I thought "You don't know how lucky you are, being able to do that so freely"
I realise that everyone will face fire restrictions as the Summer season progresses but up to that point most backyard conflagrations can be whenever and wherever they suit the bearer of the matchbox.
Nah, I am just jealous and thinking evil thoughts towards those who can light up and those who can't
Isn't that pitiful. |
