2 Mar '08 7:10 am Hello all sorry for the long absence! Missed the group and havent had time to be around with the new house. Well spring is sprung "almost" here in Florida its always some sort of spring or summer...the other two seasons are kind of muddled.
Ive been looking at my empty beds around my house, I have a few trees that Id love to either cut down or have carted off as they are a pain in the butt and taking up precious sun areas to plant ROSES!!! I have three palm trees that I cant stand. They drop these little round balls and they are deadly about shooting out the lawn mower! I just cant stand the palm trees! I like to look at them on the beach just not in MY YARD!!!
Oh and how the hell do you kill and get rid of a banana tree infestation????

2 Mar '08 5:06 pm Hey, welcome back - and go those roses! I'd choose roses over palm trees any day, but I guess that I can't easily growe palm trees here. Hmm....

Banana tree infestation?
3 Mar '08 3:19 am Oh yeah, that was really bad back in 1998. Everyone in my neighborhood got them bad. Between their coming up between the pavers and leaving fruit all about it was quite a mess. javascript:emoticon('')
Seriously, what a weird but wonderful world you have there in Florida. I wonder if you can't trim up the folliage to just the newer growth on any of the palms. Sounds like the fruiting one has got to go regardless. Lets hope there isn't any palm tree ordinance in your neighborhood.
The house, which I saw on the last post, is beautiful. The idea your fellow floridian had about getting roses grafted on to nematode tolerant root stock seems hopeful. If you brought your own roses perhaps you can graft these onto such root stock?
Looking forward to seeing more photos!

19 Mar '08 5:44 am They all comeback. I have been absent myself and saw your post neighbor. Do you have any shot of your infestations. There are a lot of different varieties of bananas and some taste like ice cream, apples, some are very very sweet while others are not. So if they were there when you got to the house they could be a very good banana to eat. If you like them. Your palm issue. Sabals grow like weeds down here. If you want to get rid of them. Put an ad on craigs list for free palms you come dig. And they will probably be gone in a week.
