11 Mar '04 9:51 am Hi there-My favourites change almost from day to day
I grow my own pseudopanax from seed and as they never grow true to parent plant the surprise is in how they will turn out.I love the red leaved sort and the narrow leaves are a favourite as well.
Also love the native grasses as well and have tried growing some native orchids as well(Maori potatoes)They have lovely wee flowers

11 Mar '04 10:30 pm Hi chooky--I get all sorts of surprises from pittosporum seeds too. The arthropodiums are another with genetic variations--small to giant size and a pinky tinge to the flowers My psuedopanax do just what you describe and I can only marvel at mother nature's genius.

12 Mar '04 7:28 am also some of the grasses will throw up variations as well.At the moment I am potting up some curly reddish ones that I am finding growing in my chooks run.No guessing as to how they got there
all the pseudopanax I grow are from 1 tree and I have about 50 at the moment(I have an addiction!!)and most are different.
Cheers and happy gardening.

12 Mar '04 11:41 pm Hi chooky and all--those native plants have a mind of their own when it comes to seeding and thriving. I have arthropodiums down the drive, at least 50 meters from where the parent plants are growing am I about to shift them--they look happy so they can sit put
