The a walk through the garden in December.12 Dec '07 2:13 pm
Here are a few pictures from around the garden taken this month. Slim pickings flower-wise this time of year with a few exceptions. The light is definitely less intense this time of year.

One gunnera head.JPG
All of the plant's leaves and flowers emerge from these odd 'heads'. This one is about 10 inches across.

Masks on stumps.JPG
I found these masks to cover up where I cut branches which were crowding the path near the back of the shade structure. I thought Dixie might get a kick out of them.

Much of the garden is shaded in the winter and what light there is comes in sideways.

Stroll through the garden13 Dec '07 2:47 am
Lovely photographs of your December garden Mark. Hubby and I will be winging our way to LA tomorrow for a visit with our daughter. We will be heading down to San Diego for a couple of days. I'm really sorry we didn't become acquainted before she (daughter) moved away from San Francisco. It would have been so nice to see your garden in person for a change. Maybe someday we'll find an excuse to visit northern California again. Until then, I hope you and Lia have a very merry Christmas and a wonderful garden filled New Year.

Travel plans and garden visits.13 Dec '07 4:26 pm
Faith I'll look forward to your visit whenever it may come. Of course there are plenty of garden opportunities in L.A. though I'm sure family time will be uppermost on your mind. Enjoy your trip.
Dixie the picture you mentioned is one Liza liked as well. I was afraid the relative position and size of things was too muddled to make sense but I was wrong - at least where those of you who have been by a few times before are concerned. Did you happen to notice the website I posted to the Garden Tours forum? It will take you to a fellow's pictures of a garden there in New Zealand. I've been curious if you know it and how it is regarded there. The fellow taking the photos is retired and travels a lot shooting pictures of great gardens. I think he really has a good eye and terrific skill with the camera.

Yes I noticed it when I logged in this morning, but I didn't comment.I wonder if Moosey has visited,as it is close to where she lives...I have seen it on TV a couple of times-very formal layout which suits the house-I always think that a garden has to suit the house it is with.

Your December Garden!!!18 Dec '07 10:56 am
Oh , Mark! Here we are again in your silver-glowing, sunny December garden!!! And that lovely Gunerra head!!!It is odd and beautiful, at the same time!!!Your garden is SO exotic for me , Mark!!! Especially right now, that it is about -6 Celcious in the garden, and everything is hard like a stone, plants looking like brown dead skeletons in the wind...

The weird and the wonderful.19 Dec '07 3:06 am
The Tree Daisy is the show stopper at the moment. In the middle of December this is about as white as we're likely to get for xmas. I intend to move it down the slope, further from the deck this winter, but until the flowers fade. Believe it or not this thing has grown at least twenty feet and bloomed in much less than a year. I'm always amazed at the amount of material plants generate from the soil, water and air. Magic. The heads of gunnera are pretty amazing too. I have to think they were the inspiration for the Little Shop Of Horrors play/movie.
