Newspaper Pots8 Nov '07 4:33 am
I chanced upon this splendid idea when visiting a gardener's blog a fortnight ago. I think it's an excellent alternative to buying commercial pots for growing seedlings or propagating stem cuttings - save money and perfect too for transplanting as the whole pot with contents goes into the soil, leaving the tender root system intact as the newspaper gradually compost!
To know how to make origami newspaper pots, see http://www.wizer.co.uk/?p=29"> How to <strong> and jiffy newspaper pots using an object, see http://www.flowerpotheaven.com/gardeningtips/2006/05/31/jiffy-peat-pots-alternative/ |

What a couple of fantastic finds, Jacqueline!8 Nov '07 8:47 am
Thanks for sharing these with us - I've had my eye on one of those wooden gadgets for making paper pots for a while, but now I can spend the money I would have spent on that, on another plant or something!
I like both versions, because the square ones could be used for most things and the cardboard tube ones could be used for things like sweet peas, which need more root depth. At the moment, I'm using the tubes from toilet rolls but, of course, they don't have a bottom, so these will be great!
Thanks again, Jacqueline. |
