We moved to the country11 Oct '07 1:52 am
when the kids were in elementary school, so they could grow up away from drugs and violence. In this country right now there is a real problem with methamphetimines (sp?) or crystal meth as they call it. It is a home made drug from readily available ingredients, not sure what all goes in it, but some things they use are ephedrine, from cold and allergy medications, starting fluid ( for car engines) and battery acid, it has to be bad with stuff like that in it. I can't imagine wanting to put something like that in my body. We were surprised to learn that tho the drug itself is common in the cities, the meth labs (where they make it) are usually in the country, one of the local police officers told me it is because they cook it and the fumes can be smelt by close neighbors and there is also a risk of small explosions and fire. It is much easier for them to go unnoticed in a rural area where they can have much more distance from their neighbors. It is common for the local paper to carry stories of a meth lab being found in the area. Last year there was a case in which a man feared he was about to be caught, after a domestic dispute got out of hand. He set his home on fire and fired shots at the fire fighters to keep them from putting it out, in an attempt to destroy any evidence. Of course it didn't work, and he just made it worse for himself. I guess there really is no community really safe from it anymore.

We are going to State!!!7 Nov '07 6:17 pm
My son Joe and his cross country team won regionals, 1st place, Hooray! State meet is Saturday, Nov 10th, we have reservations and are staying the night Fri, so we can be there. He is so excited, thinks they have a really good chance. They are still ranked 1st in State and beat the 2nd place rated team by 43 points at the regional meet, so their confidence is high.

That's fantastic, Faerisweet - tell Joe we're all rooting (is that how you spell it? Brain's gone blank!) for him and the team , but whatever happens at the state competitions, they've already made a huge achievement so anything else is a bonus

Thank you everyone..9 Nov '07 6:34 pm
We are really proud of him, he puts such effort into it as does the rest of the team. It is being held in Round Rock, Texas, outside of Austin at Old Settlers Park. We are going tomorrow and staying the weekend. Kind of celebrating our 21st anniversarry, which was Nov. 1st while we are there. They have a really good chance but whatever the outcome, they have worked hard and done well this year.

State Meet is over16 Nov '07 8:39 pm
we got 3rd in state... they ran well and are very happy, and of course all the parents are very proud of them. They would of liked first of course, but third is good. We got some great pictures with our new camera (hubby got me for our anniversary) I will try to post them if I can figure out how to resize them. I love the camera but it is so much more complicated than what I am used to. In other news, we finally got our daughter Ariel her first car, a 95 Dodge Avenger, she loves it. It was to be her birthday present, but it is a bit late, took awhile to find something we could agree on. She wanted cute and sporty, we wanted reliable and affordable, this is both.
