My Other Affectionate...Love....4 Oct '07 12:53 am
During October, "my" beloved Chateau de La Hulpe becomes Autumnally multicoloured! Nature starts Her sweet Winter-sleep process...She doesn't wish to deprive us abruptly from her uplifting multi-colours , of which we are SO used all these last months, rainy or not...And She dresses Her beloved beings in the most graceful colours ,... again.. These colours are neither repeatedly and massively explossive, nor madly joyful and uplifting...They are globally serene, but strong at the same time, delightful, and refined, like the mature paintings of a ....mature, experienced painter -- which She is! Thank God!
Why are they called "Earth Colours"?? Maybe , because , sofltly , all the little parts of the gracious beings dressed in these Autumnal colours, become one with the Earth, ....using Her as a huge hibernating bed...

No matter how many Autumns come and go, they are always beautiful... special.
We are midway through Spring here, just enjoying watching the garden waken and fill with things we had planted and forgotten about (I love that!), and here are you on the other side of the world enjoying the serenity of the garden tucking itself up for Winter sleep.
Nature is reflected perfectly in your photos, one can even hear the quiet as she settles..

Here you seem ahead of me seasonwise, but at home you seem more fully centered in summer than I. Nice for you to have both seasons ready to hand. Stay home for summer's bounty or to your local estate garden for fall color.

I can't believe the colours in the path in photo 36. All the scenes are magic !
I went to this majestic place with google earth and it was wonderful to find how it
is placed within the cities.

The Chateau in the beginning of Autumn...4 Oct '07 6:36 pm
Well. It is true, my friends, that in my garden -- apart from the Asters, the pink Chrysanthem, and the Japanese Daisies -- Autumn is not very ...Autumnally expressed yet...But in the Chateau graceland the temperatures are much lower, although it is only 10-15' away from my house by car. And these photos are taken , between the end of September and mid October.
And I know how lovely -- and uniting!-- this feeling of Southern/Northern Seasons is !! It is like the REAL circle of Life : a "death" , followed by an immediate rebirth! Eternal Life, that is! Lovely, non??
Some more of early Autumn Chateau delights :

Dear Liza- These are lovely pictures. I couldn't sleep tonight with the wind and rain pounding on my roof and walls (I think autumn has well and truly arrived here!) so I got out of bed and turned on the computer to poke around through Moosey's. And here were these wonderful new pictures! The colours are magnificent, quite unlike what I've been led to believe that autumn colours in Europe were. I've always thought that Autumn colours there were quite dull, unlike the famous eastern North American Autumn colours. But you've proven that to be wrong!
I also checked the world news, and, if Jack is reading this, I certainly hope for the quick, safe recovery of all those South African miners who are trapped in the gold mine west of Johannesburg.
Thanks so much for these pictures. I must now hurry off to see what else I have been missing!

Strong winds and trapped miners??4 Oct '07 7:10 pm
Thank you all, dear friends, for sharing in delight this lovely graceland!
Gordon, I have read somewhere else, about your neighbour, who has provoked the death of a very old tree in his garden, which was protecting you from the strong winds...I am SO sorry! Both for you and the tree! In our previous house , the queen of that cute little garden was a Weeping Willow! How I cherished her!! But after the blockage of our toilette pipes by a part of her roots, this rootpart had to be cut off! Fortunatelly, the old tree was still happy. But the year after we left, the owner put her to death, because -- he said -- she was depriving the small garden from the sun, partly true...Well, no bird-songs and red lovely squirrels any more..
I have not heard about the miners, I hope they are saved by now.

Oh Liza, you have just reminded me why autumn has always been my favourite season! Even before I came back to the gardening fold, as it were, I always loved autumn for its slightly messy but absolutely stunning last-minute show before tucking itself up for the winter, and your beloved Chateau is the perfect example.
Thank you, my friend, for sharing your haven with us.

Love the chateau6 Oct '07 5:01 am
Although I prefer to see a little more wall amidst the ivy vines. I'm not sure if I like the green towers. Gardens there are real nice and I love the fountain.
And yes, the autumnal colors are grand. We are just watching the last of the leaves fall from out beloved elm trees. Soon time to rake all the leaves over out perennials to help them cope with the coming cold. I don't think this is something you worry about.
Interesting how the climate varies around the world, even in the same hemisphere.

Lovely Autumn in the Chateau!6 Oct '07 6:41 am
Today it was a lovely sunny day and I made a serene stroll in the Chateau, passing from exactly the same places, where these photos are taken last September-October! Within a week , the colours and looks will be exactly like in the photos!!
In my garden, though, the blue Asters are in full bloom, but not any sign of butterflies.. Nor any golden, fallen, or red leaves en masse , yet...
But today, the most exciting butterfly incident took place in my...computer room : I had just closed my computer and stood up to leave the room. And there, Jeany comes in, running after a...red Peacock butterfy!!I cross my heart! I close the door, and I catch and enclose the frightened lovely creature softly in my hands. I take her to my opposite situated bedroom and let her free from my open window! Dear me!! This sort of incident only with birds has happened to me until now... I have freed butterflies only trapped in the glass house so far...
Thank you Bambi for sharing my love for the Chateau!
And , Chris, I have to tell you that although the Chateau Garden is considered so beautiful by the specialists of THIS sort of gardens, I --personally -- would be bored having such an ancient-style garden in my house...
