More Gorgeous pictures, Liza! The ones with the trees with golden leaves bending towards the water remind me of the scenes in the book, "The Hobbit" when Bilbo was falling asleep beside the river and the willow tree, "Old Man Willow" grabbed him and tried to drag him under water. I know that the grabbing part was rather scary, but the part just before that was so mellow and restful! The descriptions made me want to fall asleep, too; so much like other places I've been in the fall! Talk about the "Golden Days of Autumn"!
Thanks!

Oh Liza, once more you present us with spectacular views of your wonderful countryside! There's just nothing quite like autumnal trees reflected in the water is there?
Oh, and I'm really sorry for doing this, but I just can't help it, so please forgive me! Gordon, that scene actually happened in The Fellowship of the Rings and it was Frodo who was pulled into the stream by Old Man Willow's roots. I think Merry and Pippin were on the land side so they were pulled underground and Sam went running up the path and found Tom Bombadil who rescued them. Sorry!

Thanks, Bambi!24 Oct '07 5:51 pm
Thanks, Bambi, for the correction! I wasn't sure which book the scene was from, so I just picked one! But, I'm sure you'll agree that it was a wonderful scene! Since my head injury, my memory isn't what it was (and getting older doesn't help, either!). There are so many wonderful scenes in those books . . . like the one in which the intrepid adventurers visit the house of that character who turned into a bear at night. The description of the house with the bee hives around it: just too wonderful!!
Cheers!

Bambi, I love the book The Hobbit - And you've remined me it's time for a re-read - let's see, it will be about the fifth time! I like the simple struggle that Bilbo has in this story - I don't mean that it's easy, but...
Anyway, thanks for reminding me! Now I really must do some work in the garden. Cheers.

Beorn!! That's his name! I've read the books several times, too, and I guess it's time to reread them again, since the memory is becoming so poor! There are so many wonderful scenes like that as well as the more scary ones in the tunnels and when Sam and Frodo are on their own approaching the Mountain! Tolkien certainly was a talented writer!
Maybe we should all reread at the same time and compare notes!!

Hee hee, that would be good! I've been thinking about re-reading them too, only problem being that I'm currently reading the Conan stories (i.e. Conan the Barbarian by Robert E Howard - also made into two films back in the eighties with Arnold Schwarzenegger) and also Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events! I don't normally read two books at a time, but the Conans are a collection of short stories so it's easy to dip in and out, plus the Lemony Snickets are (let's face it!) really children's books, so I can skip through them quite quickly (they're really good, though, I would highly recommend them to children of any age!).
Anyway, I won't say any more on the subject, as this is Liza's thread and I feel like I've hijacked it somewhat, so many apologies Liza!

Good-bye Golden Autumn!12 Nov '07 5:02 am
The Golden Chateau de La Hulpe , my deep affectionate love representing Autumn in all its splendour for me, was still golden until the end of last week, before the violent rains and winds started! Paying a tribute to its alluring Beauty, I post for you here -- that have never seen it-- this set of ...golden photos.

Oh Liza!12 Nov '07 6:59 am
I walked with you every familiar step of the way. Tomorrow I shall download these at school - and I think replace your holiday pic of the peninsula with the temple and the red petunias in a pot, which has been my desktop since the Kalmthout picture, with one of these golden ones... will let you know which one!
