Dear Goran, I am curious because you mentioned being in the region known as Slovonia. I once had the pleasure to becoming acquainted with a female doctor who was from Slovenia, I thought. Is this possibly the same place and I am just misspelling the name? |

Belated Welcome!29 Sep '07 2:24 am
Hi Goran, I just found your post for the first time (no idea how I missed it before!) and wanted to add my welcome and encourage you to share as much as you like of your gardens (both town and country) and animals.
I was interested to see your little ferrets/weasels(?) as a friend of mine keeps ferrets and they are just the cutest things! Are yours adorably mischievous?
And your country gardens are spectacular - I particularly love the view from your main yard, and your vineyard - do you make your own wine? Also lovely to see the translations into your own language! |

Mythology29 Sep '07 11:54 am
Hello again, Goran!
Thank you for the wonderful bits of Slavonic mythology; as someone else said, it's great to have friends like you who can add to our knowledge of the history of plants. I would love to hear more about these stories and beliefs! And it is very interesting to hear about the use of the sunflower seeds for bio-fuel!
I have a small request: sometime when you have the time, could you please post a few pictures of the area where you live? That way I would have a better idea of what the area is like and I would be better able to place your gardens in the environment (if that makes sense ). Is it a heavily-built city area or a farming area; mountainous or flat - that sort of thing.
And DO keep writing to us!
Cheers!

Belated welcome, Goran.29 Sep '07 4:59 pm
I've been such a workaholic this week that I missed your coming on board. Welcome. Loved the pictures. Your pond area must be a real magnet as a place to relax when you can outside. It must be interesting to be able to garden both on the intimate level of your frontyard as well as maintain a real working farm. The sunflowers look great. If I had such a field I'd want to take a couple of photos from the same exact location to the South. It would be to see them at first light, at noon and again before sunset to see their 'faces' tracking the sun. The area of your garden that intrigued me the most was the rock garden with the little treasures. I might have to do more in that direction some day.
The ferret-weasel guys make me want to get one or two. I'll bet they earn their keep catching the odd rodent. I wonder how they get along with the pup and cat? Okay, time to hit the sack but, again, please do post some more photos and say more. Your English is not only great but ever so much better than my Slav. ('Lazy American' here .. just English and enough French to make a Frenchman speak English rather than go on hearing my tortured accent. Oh, and enough Spanish to thoroughly turn my attempt to speak either language into a total mishmash.)
Thanks again for the tour. Very enjoyable.

Hi Goran,29 Sep '07 5:13 pm
As everyone else stated your english is fine, I live in Texas (U.S.A.) and believe me your english is as good or better than many of us Texans for whom it is our native language. One of the tourist slogans for the state is, Texas, It's a whole other country, sometimes I think they may be right.
Thank you for sharing some pictures of your country garden, I am really taken with your rock garden, and of course the sunflower field, there is nothing like a field of sunflowers. |
